John Kallop Obituary

John C. Kallop

AGE: 60 • Middletown

John C. Kallop, 60, died at home on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, following a courageous nine month battle with abdominal cancer. Born in South Orange, NJ, his family lived briefly in Middletown then moved to Sea Girt. John was actively involved in Troop 55 of The Sea Girt Boy Scouts, the summer recreational leagues, and the fun available to a young boy at the Jersey Shore amidst a sizeable group of friends.

After graduating from the Ranney School, John spent his undergraduate years at Lafayette College and earned an MBA from Rutgers University. He remained close friends with his beloved DKE brothers from Lafayette throughout his life.

John spent more than 30 years working in the financial services sector. He spent the majority of his career as a senior member of the Capital Markets groups at Prudential Securities, PaineWebber and A.G. Becker/Warburg Paribas Becker, including being Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer for the Capital Markets Group and Chief Operating Officer of the Equity Capital Markets Group at Prudential Securities. Always focused on helping others be successful, he was a confidante and mentor for many, providing advice, guidance or an introduction to his professional network.

John was devoted to family and friends, always generous when he saw a need. His giving was well known among those closest to him, most often done anonymously. He took great pleasure in helping others achieve their potential.

John cherished summers in Bermuda, having first visited in 1966. His family spent every summer there and he said his children and The Rat (the baby wrangler) grew up in Bermuda.

An avid historian with near photographic recall of dates and events, he often pointed out errors to published historians and novelists; and was pleased to receive their acknowledgments for his corrections. He was well read and wise in his opinions, passionately interested in politics and relished dynamic debate. A life-long bibliophile, he craved information, always reading multiple books at once.

Predeceased by his father and mother, Harry G. Kallop, Jr. & Anderene Natolia Moreau, he is survived by his wife Monica, son Jahred Christopher, daughter Elizabeth Moreau, sister & brother-in-law Deanie & Gary Walters of Stratford, CT, aunt Leigh Bennett of Manasquan, NJ, uncle & aunt John W. & Lynn Kallop of Englewood, FL, beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 94 Tindall Road, Middletown, at 11am on Saturday, April 28. Visitation is prior to the service from 9:30am to 10:45am in Harlan Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Journeys of Solutions, Attn: Bonnie Dupuis, Treasurer, PO Box 28, Webster, NY 14580 or, VNAHG-Hospice, Attn: Development Office, 176 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

John was an amazing human being. I cannot think of him without smiling. I remember instantly the late night talks, words of encouragement and neverending support. If you worked with John you were absolutely going to learn something. His door was always open and he had an abundance of advice for every situation. The glass was never half full, he could put a positive spin on everything. He spent a lot of time at work so I want say thank you to his family for sharing him with his work colleagues. My life for certain was enriched by his presence.

I am very saddened to hear of John's passing. I worked with him at Prudential. He was always thoughful, generous and encouraging. He had a great sense of humor. He was one of the people at Prudential who always made me feel like my contributions mattered. When I was expecting my son he bought pratically every Sesame Street toy they had on the shelf. My life and my son's life were enriched by having known John. I wish his family comfort in this difficult time. I know he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

with deepest sympathy,

Virginia Fletcher

I remember John growing up in Sea Girt and working at Giunco's market during his high school years. He was a always a gentleman, and in later years, I had the pleasure of working with him on the sale of his mother's condo. I was a friend of his mother's for many years and he was very cooperative working with me on the sale. Pease accept my sincere sympathy at this sad time. I know how much his family will miss him.

Dear Monica, Jahred and Elizabeth:

I too mourn the loss of John - my dear friend and partner in crime. I will think of him often and smile when I do. While I will miss him, I am happy that his suffering is over. We shared many things and Bermuda, for one, will never be the same.

I am so thankful that you three were able to give him your time these past few months and help him through a very difficult time.

My heart goes out to you.
