Michael Steinhauer Obituary

Michael Edward Steinhauer

AGE: 38 • Little Egg Harbor

Michael Edward Steinhauer, 38, of Little Egg Harbor, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by family and friends. Michael was born in Atlantic City Medical Center on Nov. 27, 1974. He attended Winchell School in Longport, N.J. and Little Egg Harbor Elementary, graduating from Pinelands Regional High School in 1993. Mike was a Police Service Representative (PSR) for the Stafford Twp. Police Department and was posthumously promoted honorary Class I Special Law Enforcement Officer on Sept. 17, 2013. All who knew or met Mike soon learned what an amazing, inspirational, and special man he was. He touched the lives of all he met by his optimistic outlook, his humor, and his kindness. Let his legacy be that we all become more patient, more tolerant, more loving, and compassionate because we learned that from Mike.

Mike was predeceased by his father, John G. Steinhauer Sr. on Dec. 19, 2012. He is survived by his mother, Nancy J. Steinhauer of Little Egg Harbor; his brother and sister-in-law, John G. and Danell Steinhauer of Waretown; his sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Anthony Bartolini of Manahawkin; his aunts and uncles, Judith Mathis of Raleigh, NC, Geary and Pat Steinhauer of New Gretna, and Paul and Fran Steinhauer of Little Egg Harbor; his nephew, Bradley Steinhauer and nieces, Bailey Steinhauer of Waretown, and Emily Bartolini of Manahawkin, and many other dearly loved family and friends.

A tribute to Mike's special and wonderful life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. The memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 5 West Marvin Ave., Linwood, N.J., preceded by a gathering with family and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Mike's memory to the Stafford Twp. PBA Local 297, 260 East Bay Ave., Manahawkin, NJ 08050, or the Stafford Twp. First Aid Squad, 365 East Bay Ave., Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Wood Funeral Home, 134 East Main St., Tuckerton, is handling the arrangements.

No more pain and no more confinement, as Mike walks across heaven with Dad.

Nancy....so, so sorry. I just heard today. Mike was so special in so many ways. Lots of memories when the "kids" were kids, swimming in your pool, practicing karate, etc. You're in my heart and in my prayers.

Nancy-
So many years, and so many miles now separate our families, but those common threads formed early- H.S., First Aid Squads, family values, children in Little League, that South Jersey pride......we have traveled quite some distance in time and geography, but we share a bond. Sometimes it is hard to understand- maybe we aren't meant to understand- just love the time we had. Good bye Jack and Mike....for now. Nancy, we are here if you need us.

To a family whom looked after me when I was young. I so wish I could help you all in another way other then in words.
So to a young man whom lit up a room
I don't believe that the little things Michael did so naturally effected those he encountered
He changed lives with a smile
You will be missed never forgotten
Those of us all have a lil piece of you which will be carried through out our days
REST NOW Michael
Let your spirt fly upon raven wings

September 20, 2013

Dear Nancy:
Although there aren't any words to ease the pain and heartache that you're feeling, there is a poem
that I read a long time ago that goes something like this: "There is no need to weep, I've left sweet recollections of our time together."

Jack went ahead, so that Mike wouldn't be alone.

It saddened me to hear of mikes passing after he was doing so well. Wow what can one say about mike that hasn't already been said, he truly was a fun and likable guy! I was his bus driver back in the day , picking him up every morning was such a joy always looking forward to his bubbly personality and "flirting" with me as I would buckle him in! He would always say " if I only could walk , you'd be in Trouble!" Well Mikey , you can now!! Thanks for leaving us all with a smile in hearts when we think of you! Our condolences to the Steinhaurer family! Bud and Debi Smith

Our hearts are breaking for the Steinhauer family, friends and co-workers of Mike. What a kind, beautiful person he was. He just possessed so much positive energy despite the trials and tribulations he has been through. He certainly was blessed with a great family to support him through the tough times. I will always remember dancing with him on our wedding day a little over 26 years ago and then again at his freedom party this summer. May he now truly enjoy his freedom and have that quality time he missed so much with his dad.
