Robert Pennell Obituary

Robert Crisswell Pennell

AGE: 96 • Asbury Park

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Crisswell Pennell at the age of 96, of Asbury Park on Sunday, March 15, 2015. Bob was born in Harrisburg, PA and grew up in Wanamassa, NJ. Bob was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, then he joined the Army. He served in the Army in WWII, where he was a combat infantryman and a scout. While he was serving, he walked all through Europe and was one of the many that witnessed the horrors of the concentration camps first hand. Earning him EAME Service Ribbon, 3 Bronze Service Stars, Gold Conduct Medal and a American Defense Service Ribbon.

Bob was one of the longest standing members of the VFW Post in Asbury Park and was also the Adjutant General for many years. Even in his later years, he still made sure he made it to bingo every week to call the numbers. After retiring from the Army, he was employed at JCP&L for 33 years before retiring.

He is predeceased by his wife, Mary and is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Smith and her husband Dennis; his son, Robert R. Pennell and his wife Vicky; 6 grandchildren, Keith, Jennifer, Shannon, Eryn, Ry and Rachel, their spouses and 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Because of his love for his dog, Skippy and his honor of veterans, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Canine Angels, which rescues and trains shelter dogs to become service dogs for disabled American veterans. CanineAngelsServiceDogs.org. 917-575-6235, 98 Shadow Moss N, Myrtle Beach, NC 29578.
