SOPHIE E. MASON
AGE: 95 WALL
Sophie E. Mason, 95, of Wall formerly of Forked River, NJ died surrounded by her family Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Wall. Born in Newark, NJ Sophie raised her family in Maplewood, NJ before moving to Forked River in 1996. Sophie was a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Irvington, NJ. She loved the beach. Sophie was very devoted to her family and she will be missed.
Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman Mason in 1998, and her 6 brothers and 1 sister. Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen Barrett; 3 sons, Timothy Mason and his wife Sandra, Robert Mason and his wife Mary Lou, Norman Mason; 8 Grandchildren, Timothy, Heather, Jennifer, Lowell, Spencer, Robert Jr., David and Andrew. She also leaves 14 great grandchildren.
Visiting will be Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Christ the King Church, Hillside, NJ. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251 Denville, NJ 07834-1365 or the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean County 3300 Route 66 Neptune, NJ 07753.

I have often asked the workers at Wall "How's Sophie Mason doing?"... I have fond memories of her, like hiding sausage in her hand and feeding Samson in AL. She so loved babies and children visited. I am saddened by the passing of Sophie. She was a delightful lady and you were a terrific family. I loved visiting with her and having her show me all of the pictures of those she loved most on her wall unit. I was honored to oversee Sophie's care while I was at Wall.
