Eugene Cain Obituary

Eugene Gerald Cain of Arbuckle passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2018.

Eugene, a lifelong Colusa County resident, was born April 29, 1924, at the Schaad Ranch on Lone Star Rd., to his loving parents Eugene T. Cain and Grace Meckfessel Cain of the Johns District. Eugene graduated from the Johns Grammar School and then from Pierce High School in 1942.

He served in the Army/Air Corps from 1943-1945. After serving his country, he returned home, married the love of his life Helen Fruchtenicht, and began to farm. He truly had a passion for farming and continued to work well into his 80's. He and Helen were married for 69 years before she passed in 2016.

Eugene was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Arbuckle Methodist Church and most recently a member of the Grimes Community Church. He was also a Community Leader for the Johns 4-H, a member of Farm Bureau, and served as Director for Federal Land Bank in Colusa. He was also instrumental in creating the Masonic display at the Sacramento Valley Museum.

Eugene and Helen enjoyed traveling to Mendocino and staying at the Little River Inn. They enjoyed cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and through the Panama Canal. He enjoyed woodworking and using as many nuts and bolts as he needed to complete the project.

Eugene is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Mike) Myers of Arbuckle, CA; Carolyn (Ron) Sutherlin of Auberry, CA; Diane (Dave) McCullough of Arbuckle, CA; son, Gary (Carole) Cain of Arbuckle, CA; sister, Eleanor Mathews of Arbuckle, CA; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helen Cain.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, 2018, from 5:00-8:00p.m, at the McNary-Moore Chapel at 107 5th St. in Colusa, CA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Grimes Community Church followed by burial at the College City Cemetery.
