Richard Arthur Fewkes

Richard Arthur Fewkes, Sr., a longtime resident of Sutter, CA, died in the early hours of August 19, 2022, after battling emphysema, he was 85.

Richard served his country honorably in Korea, Germany and Vietnam from 1954-1976, balancing his duty and deployment with ardent love for his children. He never stopped working and helping his neighbors. He was a true old school fellow with fierce pride in his service, his nation, his legacy, and the work of his own two hands.

A General's chauffer in his younger days, he enjoyed a reputation for a smooth ride and "not spilling the Generals' coffee." He twice took his family on a "Grand Tour" of Europe, later traveling America on his beloved federal highways.

Practicality and thrift made him a fine craftsman. "Grandpop Fewkes," a favorite among his grandchildren, was always fun to be around; he was keen to offer his tools, advice, and stories. With every fresh thermos of black coffee, Richard will be remembered for his gentle laugh, firm handshake, patient ear and keen eye. We who knew him will look to his memory for strength.

Richard is preceded in death by his sister, Helen.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanne; brother, Robert; children, Dorothy and Richard; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Deborah, Paul, Renee, William, and their children.

A memorial service with full military honors, will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 1:00 PM, on October 13, 2022, with a luncheon to follow at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1305 N. 1st St., Dixon.
