Adam Stine Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

STINE, Adam Adam Stine, age 45, Atlanta, died March 30, 2012. Beloved husband, son, and brother, as well as dedicated, caring friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ramsey; his parents, Joyce and Herbert Stine, Sandy Springs; his sister Kelly Stine, Sandy Springs; parents-in-law, David and Virginia Ramsey, Marietta; sister-in-law, Jennifer and Jeff Biddy, Kennesaw; brother-in-law, Marshall and Amy Ramsey, Madison, Miss; and nephews: Blake, Bryce, Daniel, David and Evan. After a courageous two-year battle, Adam Stine succumbed to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) on March 30, 2012. He addressed his illness with an inspirational courage and dignity. The love and support his friends and family showed during his illness was nothing compared to the love and support he gave his whole life long. Adam was born on February 3, 1967 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Riverwood High School and received his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Electrical Engineering from Rice University. Adam worked at ADVA Optical as an Electrical Engineer, a job he proudly continued to perform throughout his illness. Adam understood what was really important in life. He lived life to the fullest and prioritized his family, friends and the community. Through the Jewish Family and Career Services Adam participated in Atlanta's Jewish Big Brother program for more than ten years. His dedication as a Big Brother made a significant impact on a young man's life. Adam was also very active in the community serving as a board member and president of the Huntley Hill Neighborhood Association for more than ten years. Adam was a loyal and lifelong friend to any friend he ever made. On any given Thursday he would assemble friends of 10, 20 or even 30 years, to enjoy barbecue, beer, and each other's company. As his illness progressed, his enjoyment of life continued unabated. He never focused on what he had lost, always savoring what life offered. When his left hand failed, he ate with his right. When his right hand failed, friends lined up to feed him. When he could no longer eat, he relished the enjoyment of others. Friends were always welcome at Adam and Stephanie's house. Dearest Stephanie, Our hearts are with you. I still recall running into you at work, catching up and somehow learning that Adam was such an enthusiastic Rice alum. I recall mentioning to my husband and thinking that you were a perfect person to connect into the warm, caring and, yes, a bit quirky culture of Rice. I met Adam once -- but have heard such wonderful and caring things through the years. I feel I knew him and know that there is a loss to all of us. We send our hugs and warm wishes to you and to all of your family.
