Family-Placed Death Notice

WESTON, Bert Bert Weston, born May 9, 1919 in Bronx, NY, died at age 92 on July 21, 2011. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Colleen Weston; son, Chet Weston, Los Angeles, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Kathy Baumgartner, Atlanta; Dr. Andrew and Jan Weston, Overland Park, KS and Jonathan and Elena Weston, Santa Cruz, CA; family friend, Lynn Henderson; nephews: Ken Iscol and Howard Rubin, NY; niece, Kate Iscol, NY; eight grandchildren. Mr. Weston was preceded in death by his brother, Chet Weston, who was killed in action during WWII. His sisters, Ethel Rubin and Harriet Tully also preceded him in death. Bert graduated from New York University in 1942 and immediately enlisted in the US Army, serving in the US Army Medical Corps in both the Pacific and European theatres during WWII. He was at the Battle of the Bulge. Bert earned a bronze star for bravery. Rising to the rank of Captain, Bert participated in liberating survivors of the Ebensee concentration camp in Austria. He was a patriotic man and very proud of his military service and the opportunity to serve his country. He was one of approximately 200 WWII veterans honored in 2009 in Washington DC by General David Patreus as liberators of the WWII concentration camps. A native of Mt. Vernon, NY, Bert moved to Atlanta in 1946 and was a leading sales rep for a men's clothing and accessories firm for the majority of his career. He was a Hadassah Associate, a Mason and a member of the Jewish War Veterans. Sign online guestbook at www.edressler.com.
