Victoria MANUEL Lester
November 2, 2020
My name is Victoria MANUEL) Lester from Columbus, GA. Cynthia REESE Turner and I were born and raised on 38th Street in Columbus, GA. ALthough she was 5 years older than me, she and my brother George Manuel were closer in age and our families were raised in the same church; Greater Beallwood Baptist Church. We both graduated from Spencer High School. I did not learn of her departure until roughly a couple of weeks ago when I was conversing with a younger family member of here's VIA facebook. So happen, I asked how was Cyn Reese as we so affectionately called her at home and it was at that time that her family shared with me that Cyn had passed
Ironically, I ran into Cyn at South DeKalb in Decatur, GA a few years back. Prior to that, I had seen her since probably the late 60s or the early 70s. Anyway, I approached her and asked "are you Cyn Reese " Immediatelt she gave me the most biggest BEAUTIFUL smile which was her trademark. She said "you must be from Columbus, GA because no one up here calls me Cyn Reese. I acknowledged yes and told her who I was and when I said Victoria she finished my sentence and said MANUEL right; which is my maiden name. We hugged and she asked about my family members and exchanged phone numbers. I left feeling really great because I found her to be the same down home person I knew from home. Seemingly, we talked once over the phone. If I remember correctly, I called her and we chatted briefly
When I learned she had passed it was so unbelievable but real nonetheless. What I learned from this experience is "we just never know when our time on earth is complete.
