Happy Birthday to my friend Nick. You helped me grow greatly as a moral and friendly person. I miss speaking to you always.

There is a poem by an unknown author that I wish to recite as I feel it aptly describes the feelings of Nick's Mom, Gina, Dad David & Brother Alex. The words are these: "You never said I'm leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before I knew it, And only God knew why; A million times I needed you, a million times I cried; If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still. In my heart you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke my heart to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of me went with you the day God took you home". (end) I do think we can take comfort that Dear Nick IS, in fact HOME. Love in Christ, Bob & Harriet

Years ago I read that as long as a person is remembered with love, he is not really gone. That is most assuredly true with respect to Nick. Any friend or parent would be grateful to have such a fine, accomplished and handsome young man for a son--or an abiding friend. With a nod to HAMLET, it seems fitting to write: "Now breaks a noble heart. Good-night Sweet Prince and flights of Angels sing thee to thy Rest" Love, Now and Always, Bob & Harriet

David, Gina and Alex: I am heartbroken over Nick. Although I had not seen him in a long time, Donna and Trevor always kept me current as to what both Alex and Nick were doing with their lives. Donna and Trevor thought the world of Nick, not to mention his grandparents.
May God grant each of you some peace during this difficult time. May 3 lights from heaven shine down on the 3 of you.

As Nick's uncle, I don't have the words to express my grief at his passing. He was a high achiever and a wonderful human being. I'm devastated that we won't meet again in this life. Humanity has lost someone who would have been a major contributor to the world. Nick, you will never be forgotten. I will try to live up to your example. Tom Marshall, Chicago, IL

Gina, I still remember you sharing stories with me about your boys and remember what a caring and dedicated mother you were/are. I know there must be a huge hole in your heart. Please know that I am praying that God brings both calm and peace into your life and that of your family. Sincerely, Anita Wallace Thomas

Please accept my sincere, truly heartfelt condolences, for your sadness in this unexpected tragedy. I certainly couldn't offer any advice to parents and grandparents who raised such an exemplary young man, your wonderful Nick.To know how much he's been loved, and always will be, would be enough, I'm sure. That would mean infinite happiness to him.God bless you and keep you in His care.

Our hearts grieve with you for the tragic loss of Nick. We never met him or you in person, but heard only wonderful things through our son Daniel, whom you graciously hosted for a night this January. The boys first met at the beginning of their 1st Year at UVA and made fast friends through rowing and attending classes together. May the love of family and friends near and far give you comfort and carry you through this devastatingly difficult time.

If we had a son, we would be proud to have this young man as our own. He now resides in paradise, but we are truly sorry for his fine parents and older brother. Love in Christ, Bob & Harriet Van Norte

Mr. And Mrs . Marshall , it breaks my heart to hear of your tragedy. My son-in-law is Mike Harner at Lovett and he was telling me about your son and what a fine young man he was. My prayers are with your family at this sad time .

My heart is grieving for your family during these difficult days. Working closely with David for years at Hawkins & Parnell, I recall the many pictures of the boys all over the office, the joy in David's eyes talking about one of his sons' games or many accomplishments and the excitement in the boys' eyes when they occasionally visited dad at the office. There is simply no greater loss. Know that you are surrounded by a community to embrace and support you during these difficult times and in the days that will follow. For now I pray for strength to get you through one day at a time.

Robin, Trevor and I were deeply saddened to hear of Nick's passing. We will forever cherish those memories of Nick tagging along at Murphey Candler...the super-talented, cute little brother who could have competed with kids many years older!
May God bless you during this time.

David, Gina and Alex,
Words cannot describe our sadness and the incredible pain you are experiencing. I remember coaching Nick with you, he was so gentle, tough and loved by his teammates. Our memories of those days are so happy. God is holding Nick tightly right now.

Words are simply not enough to express my deepest sympathy to you. I wish we were still across the street from each other so I could be there for you and hug you. One day at a time. Time will soften the pain which you are feeling now as you grieve your loss of this fine son. Much love to you both, Gina and David.

I am completely stunned at this horrible news and I am at complete loss of words with which to adequately state my sincerest condolences to the Marshall family. May Nicholas rest in peace with God in the Kingdom of Heaven. You all are my prayers.
