ALBERT HETTENA Obituary

ALBERT HETTENA - SOUTH BURLINGTON - Albert Hettena, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 7, 2015. His kindness and gentle demeanor earned him the nickname "Uncle Al" to those who knew and loved him. Albert was born May 10, 1925, in Cairo, Egypt, to the late Khedoury and Sarine Khettena. After leaving Egypt, he traveled the world working in the import/export business, before settling in New York City and meeting Charlotte, his beloved wife of 58 years. Later, he began working for Republic National Bank of New York in the Precious Metals department, eventually retiring as Senior Vice President. After his retirement, he enjoyed giving back to the community, volunteering for numerous organizations. In addition to Charlotte, he leaves behind his daughter, Judy Hettena Wright, her husband, David Wright and his grandson, Connor Wright. Albert is survived by his sister, Esther Hettena; his nephews, Jonathan, Solly, and Jacques Hettena, and their wives, Jill, Lee, and Suzy. He is also survived by his great-nephew, Jarrett Hettena and his wife, Keri; his great-niece, Marni Hettena Bloch and her husband, Gary, and his great-nieces, Jolie and Marli. He was predeceased by his brothers, Victor and Jacques; and his nephew, Morris Hettena. He was also "Uncle Al" to his wife Charlotte's family, including Edward Mann and his wife, Lee Ann; his niece, Cindy; his niece, Morgan and her wife, Joanna; and his nephew, David. Albert was a man with a complex mind, yet he most enjoyed the simple pleasures. He was happiest spending time with family, especially in Cape Cod, Mass., which he discovered with Charlotte on a road trip in 1959. He loved sitting in the sun surrounded by his loved ones of all generations. Funeral services will be held at Temple Sinai, 500 Swift St., South Burlington, on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at 1 p.m., with burial to follow in Temple Sinai Cemetery, 204 Patchen Rd., South Burlington. Following, all family and friends are invited back to the Hettena home in South Burlington, from 3 to 7 p.m. Shiva service will begin at 5 p.m. Shiva will also be held at the Hettena home on Monday and Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors. The family wishes to thank Dr. Frank Landry for his extraordinary care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Albert's name to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA, 010610515; or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446.

Judy, Dave and Connor,

While nothing will take away the sadness of a loved one passing, take comfort that your father/grandfather will live on forever in your memories and in your hearts and will be there to watch over you all as he did in this life.

With our deepest sympathies,

Maryann & Rob
