David Napoli Obituary

David Francis Napoli

January 29, 2025

David Francis Napoli, age 74, of Madison, OH, and formerly of Auburn, NY, passed away January 29, 2025 in Cleveland, OH. He was the oldest child born to James and Helen Napoli (nee Calimeri).

In his younger days, he was very competitive and loved to play and coach sports, especially baseball. Dave was so competitive; he even had a few records of most ejected coach. He served for 39 years in the NYS Department of Corrections, serving at many facilities and many years on C.E.R.T. Dave retired as Superintendent of Southport Correctional Facility. After retirement, he enjoyed being with his family and being a "papa". Dave loved his family and friends from an early age, helping those he loved and expecting nothing in return.

Dave is survived by his wife of 51 cherished years, Carolyn (nee Koziol); mother, Helen Napoli; son, David A. (Becky, his beloved daughter-in-law) Napoli of Perry, OH; grandchildren, Kaylee, Max, and Essie; siblings, James (Diane) Napoli, Robert Napoli, Susan (Richard) Valentino, and Thomas (Nicole) Napoli; brother-in-law, Joseph Koziol; nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, co-workers, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father James Napoli and sister Nancy Napoli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held later this year.

The Napolis were royalty in the upper Hamilton Ave neighborhood. While it was certainly very sad to lose Nancy a bunch of years ago, with David´s passing, we lose the crown prince of the neighborhood. His mom, Helen, has always been the "Saint of Hamilton Ave" . Blessings to her and the family. I have such fond memories of her and the family. It gives me confidence in the country and the world.

Dearest Napoli Family,
I cannot begin to express my deepest condolences for your loss. He was a wonderful man who always had a great joke or comment and made everyone laugh. He was a true light. I´ll have an " old man mint" ( wintergreen lifesaver) in his honor. My heart goes out to you all.

Tom and Napoli family. My deepest heartfelt sympathy go out to all of you. I first met Dave in the 1990s when I was a sergeant and he came to Cayuga as a Captain. He was a confident and natural leader who was a stabilizing force in a chaotic environment. He was a mentor and friend to many and I consider myself lucky to be in that category. I have many fond memories and I smile when I think of him. Rest in peace Nap.
