Barbara Scheil

RICHMOND, Va. - Barbara Veno Scheil, of Glen Allen, VA, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, of Glen Allen, VA; her son, Christopher Caldwell, his wife, Laurie and her grandchildren, Natasia and Ian Caldwell, all of Augusta, GA; her brother, William Russell Veno of Augusta, GA, and many friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her beloved son, William Andrew Scheil, and her parents, Vincent and Norma Veno, of Arlington, VA. She was a loving mother to Chris and Andy, a devoted wife and daughter, and a proud grandmother. Throughout her life she was a shining example of compassion, caring for others during illnesses including her brother-in-law, and both of her parents prior to their deaths. She was an active member of St. Luke's Anglican Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, VA. She received her education at the University of Richmond, graduating in 1966. She began her actuarial training at the Life Insurance Company of Virginia (now Genworth Financial) where she obtained both her Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation and her Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation. Most importantly, this is where she met her husband Bill. She had a distinguished career with Life of Virginia, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, Milliman & Robertson, Aon Consulting and in her own actuarial consulting firm, Barbara V. Scheil & Associates, Ltd. in Rockville, VA. She was a published author in numerous actuarial journals and well respected expert in the health care industry. Her career included not only personal successes, but the success of numerous others to whom Barbara served as a mentor in both their professional and personal lives. She was a brilliant, loving, and generous person. Her quick wit and kind spirit made her easy to work with and she was a wonderful person from whom to learn. Her loyalty to friends is beyond measure and she has impacted her entire profession for generations to come with her mentorship. Visitation service will be held on Friday, November 25. 2016 from 6 - 8 PM and funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10AM in the Chapel at Bennett Funeral Homes, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA with private burial immediately following at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Family will receive visitors at the home on 15392 Abner Church Rd., Glen Allen, VA, following the Chapel services. Fr.
