Charlie Broome Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Charlie E. Broome, 77, husband of Shirley Utley Broome, entered into rest Thursday, October 6, 2016, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 2016, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Broome, son of the late Bennie and Eula Goodson Broome, was a business owner and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Green Meadows Country Club. He graduated from Richmond Academy and was a member of their 1956 State Championship football team. He was preceded in death by his brother, James "Pete" Broome. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Todd "Rudy" Broome (Lara), of Hephzibah; his daughter, Kimberly Broome Grubbs (Rick), of Martinez; his brother, Bennie "Mac" Broome, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Shayna Price (Travis), Christina Grubbs, Tyler Gault, Karson Broome, Samantha Grubbs, and Kennedy Broome; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Chris Cason, Jeff Cason, Joshua Bolin, Justin Bolin, Bruce Broome, Buzz Broome, Lance Poss, and Jody Dickson. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 825 North Belair Rd., Evans, GA 30809. The family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2016, from 2:00 PM until the hour of service Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, GA 30906. www.chanceandhydrick.com
