Joseph Barbaree Obituary

Retired U.S. Navy MARTINEZ, Ga.- Mr. Joseph Eugene (Joe) Barbaree, 76, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen F. Barbaree, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday July 24, 2004 at Bayview Memorial Park, Pensacola, Fla., under the direction of Bayview Fisher-Pou Funeral Home, 3351 Scenic Hwy 90 E. Pensacola, Fla. Mr. Barbaree was a native of Troy, Ala., and had made Pensacola, Fla., his home for 35 years. He then moved to Martinez, Ga., where he has resided for the past 7 years. Mr. Barbaree was a retired veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam having served in the U.S. Navy and civil service. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. #3200 in Augusta and a member of the Naval Masonic Lodge # 24 F&AM in Pensacola, Fla. The family said he was blessed with many friends who knew and loved him. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Mason and Ferrolyn Burttschell; one stepdaughter, Tonya Knox; three brothers, Robert, Jack and Charles Barbaree all of Fla.; two sisters, Myra Taylor and Dorothy Reddoch both of Ala.; three grandchildren, Beverly Ward, Michael Suarez, Craig Wyse; three step grandchildren, Tammy Taylor, Lindsay Mason, Ryan Mason; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Barbaree was predeceased by a son John J. Sullivan. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904. A visitation with the family will take place from 6-8 p.m., this evening, Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Platt's Funeral Home on N. Belair Road.
