Van Buren Simpson Jr.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Van Buren Simpson Jr.,78, beloved husband of 57 years to Mrs. Gladysann Sims Simpson, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at his son's residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 23, 2006 at Damascus Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Additional survivors include, a son, Van (Spud) Simpson, III. and wife, Glenne of Augusta; a daughter, Isabell Hebberger and husband, Bill of Marietta,Ga.; two brothers, Preston Simpson and wife, Faye of Leah,GA, and Norris Simpson and wife, Michele of Wrens GA; a sister, Martha Cartledge and husband, Otis of Evans GA; three grandchildren, Merry Glenne Motlow, Van (Tater) Simpson IV, and Will Hebberger; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a brother, the late Bobby Simpson and a sister, the late Valerie Newsome. A native of Jacksonville, FL., Mr. Simpson was a former deacon of Damascus Baptist Church and a faithful member. He retired from Georgia Pacific and was the Founder of Savannah River Lumber Company. He was a former President of Belfast and Green Acres Hunting Clubs. Van was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great outdoorsman all of his life.
