Terrence ORR Obituary

Born Sept. 8, 1936, in Lancaster, California, to Laurence "Red" Orr and Edith Faina Orr. Terry was the second eldest of 10 children. He attended elementary school in Lancaster, graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Santa Clara. He served proudly in the U.S. Army Infantry and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. He married his high school sweet- heart, Kathleen Barbara Howell, in 1956; together they raised five children in Lancaster and Leona Valley. Terry worked for many years in the Antelope Valley as a civil engineer. He served as chairman for the Red Cross, and was active at Saint Elizabeth Mission in Lake Elizabeth. After moving back to Lancaster, Terry and Kathy were longtime parishioners at Saint Junipero Serra Catholic Church before relocating to Albuquerque, N.M., to be near their daughter, Bethe, and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Edith Orr. He passed away in Crown Point, Ind., on Jan. 27, 2019, and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen; his five children: Maria Orr, Suzanne McGuire, Tony Orr, Bethe Sailer, and Erin Orr; his 11 grandchildren: Adrienne, Stephanie, Morgan, Amanda, Cambria, Zachary, Ryan, Peter, Katlynn, Alexandria, and Jacob; and his eight great-grandchildren: Landon, Jude, Kinley, Nora, Tristan, Emerie, Hasten, and Lyric; and his nine siblings. A family gathering will be held in the spring to celebrate his life. Dad, we will do our best to honor The Leader of the Band, and keep our powder dry when the going gets tough.

Terry was my classmate in the College of Engineering at Santa Clara University and lived across the hall in our dorm during our freshman year. I had lost track of him over the years, but was inspired to "look him up" on line. I am sorry that he has passed on. He was a great guy as a classmate, early on he wss dedicated to become a top engineer and build bridges. I am happy that he had a successful life and was well loved. To his family and friends, I extend my sympathies for your loss.

As a fellow engineer, I worked with Terry in the 80's. He was a good engineer and a very good person. I will always feel inspired by his integrity and selflessness. My condolences to his family and friends. Thank you Terry for helping me to be a better engineer and person during the early years of my career as a private engineer.
