Ann Garvey Obituary

Ann M. Garvey (Annie), a resident of the Ahwatukee for over 20 years, died on Sunday, August 17, 2008. She was 71 years of age. Annie had been suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and was surrounded by her friends and family in her last months. Annie was born September 24, 1936 in Newburgh, New York to Lillian and Edwin Ostergren. She spent her youth on an apple and chicken farm in upstate New York. Annie was married at West Point in 1960 to James G. Garvey Sr., who passed away in 2002. They had two children, Lisa and Jim Jr. Annie loved life and embraced it fully! She traveled the world: Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Denmark, Mexico. She even dared to visit Checkpoint Charlie as the Berlin Wall was going up. She taught macramé. She loved decorating and helping others decorate. She loved swimming, water skiing and downhill skiing. She successfully ran a clothing store, The Clothes Connection, in Plover, WI for many years. She served on the Board of Directors at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center. She played bridge with her friends. She loved golf and even had a hole-in-one. She loved people, her friends, and her family. Annie had an enduring spirit and loved her country. Each of us will miss her greatly! She is survived by her two children, Lisa (Tony) and Jim, Jr. (Julie); 6 grandchildren, Nicole and Derek Lopez; Ryan, Lucas, Jordyn and Tatum Garvey-the joys of her life; one brother, John Ostergren of North Carolina, a sister-in-law, Gerry Rohwer of Ahwatukee and a brother-in-law, Andy Garvey of South Dakota. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, Aug 31st, Ahwatukee Recreation Center 5001 East Cheyenne Drive Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Association or MDA - ALS Division. Burial will be at West Point, New York. Go Army! Carr Tenney Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

I'm so sorry to hear about our friend Annie - We used to have many good laughs with Annie & Jim when they lived in Plover, many times were Friday night fish frys with the Church's -And usually at the Gary Nations... Which is now Spiedinis and still owned by the Nations. May her memories as well as your father's be dear to you and help you thru this difficult time. Our sympathies to all of you, Jim and Lisa - and your families.
