Carole Blakely-Dins Obituary
Carole Jean Blakely-Dins, In her 73rd year, after a brief illness in Peterborough, Ontario, on January 14, 2006. Jean will be deeply missed by her companion of the past 14 years, Keith Dins. Predeceased by her loving husband of 30 years, Carl David Blakely (1932-1988). Jean will be sadly missed by her daughter, Jana Lee Rand & her husband, Marc and grandsons, Trent & Benjamin of Ottawa. She will be lovingly remembered by her son David, his wife Jes and grandchildren, Bryce, Katherine, Erin & Russell of Toronto. Jean is survived by older Brother Glen Haggerty of Ivanhoe and brother-in-law and sister-in-laws, Barb Haggerty and Roy & Audrey Blakely of Peterborough. She is predeceased by her parents Reg and Molly, older sisters, Betty & Colleen and her first born daughter, Laurie Jane Blakely (1958-1962). Jean grew up in the small eastern Ontario village of Ivanhoe the fourth child of Irish, Loyalist parents and was a graduate of Centre Hastings High School. After marrying Carl Blakely in 1 956, she relocated to Peter -
borough where she raised her family and became known to many people locally for her community service, her enthusiastic piano playing talents and her work with the YMCA. Jean made up for her rather isolated formative years, in adulthood where she regularly became the central figure in many local initiatives to serve the community (Kiwanis Club's Kinnette of the Year 1969-70), Irish Club and entertainer at various retirement residences such as Fairhaven and other homes. Her hobbies were bridge and reading cookbooks which led to her becoming an excellent cook. She had a positive impact on everyone she met and an unwavering optimism in the human spirit. In recent years, Jean and her partner Keith have enjoyed a very busy retirement, dividing their time between their home on Engleburn Avenue in Ashburnham and their winter home in Scottsdale, Arizona. In the winters she was a member of Audrey's Angels and entertained at many retirement homes in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix and played for her home resort, Roadrunner and Apache Wells. Jean was also a very popular member of the Arizona Ragtyme Society and played with them, many times. Her exuberance for life and love of music made her friends with everyone who met her and it is hoped this will carry on through the grandchildren, A Memorial service was held at Grace United Church on Tuesday, January 17.
