I did not really know my Uncle Daryl. We lived in the same state for more than 20 years and I only saw him twice during my 29 years.
I loved hearing stories about him from my mother when I was a child and remember fondly a visit with him when I was six and his dog Scarlet (who smelled badly and I wasn't shy about letting him know that). During that visit he helped me with my loose tooth.
I will miss knowing that my Uncle is across the valley and having him on my Christmas card list. Family is family regardless on time spent together. Uncle Daryl was family and he was loved.

To attend the memorial service for Daryl Ayers was bittersweet. It brings the reality of how short life can be. It seems that just a very short time ago, I was best friends with his sister Karen, lying on the bed gushing over her handsome brother.
I have great respect for those in the military and law enforcement who dedicate their lives to the service of their country and communties.
Additionally, it was nice to see his twin sisters, Alene and Arlene. All the "Ayers" children were blessed with good looks, as is still evident.
It is my prayer that time will lessen the grief of his family and they will be left with wonderful memories until the day their family is reunited.
