Louise ~ We were so sorry to hear of Jake's passing. It was such a joy to see him at the Temple, after such a long time. I'm sure Mom and Dad (Bro R) greeted him with open arms and relived all the great times we had at the Institute. You are a very special lady and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Dear Louise, You probably don't remember me, but I was acquainted with all of your family. I remember vaguely going to a bus trip to SLC with a bunch of kids and you and I were on that trip. I visited your brother Garth when he was on a mission to Japan. I visited him in Kyoto, Japan, I believe. I used to date your sister Velma when she was in high school.
I believe, I knew your husband when I was going to ASU in 1953. I think, I knew him when I was going to the institute there. I was greatly shocked to hear of Jake's passing.
I wish to express my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
I know your family will support you at his time and the Lord will too. Jack Peterson from the old Eighth Ward.

Mary Louise and Family,
We were saddened to hear of Jake's passing. Wished we could have attended the funeral but we were in Arkansas. He was kind to everyone and a very good example of Christlike living. We remember hearing him say to someone about their children: "You have a nice family and there isn't a slacker among them." That is how we feel about your family--all 13 children are wonderful and there isn't a slacker among them. We pray that the pleasant memories you have of Jake will carry you through the years until you are reunited.

Mary Louise, My thoughts and prayers are with you as you must be without your eternal companion for a time. Jake was a great cousin and a great example to me. I hope that we can keep in touch and that you can find comfort with all the great memories of a great life together. You have a wonderful posterity. I enjoyed so much getting to know them better when we came to Snowflake for Jake's funeral.

Our lives have been enriched by having Jake Flake in our lives. I always loved talking to him as he gave me wisdom and the courage to pursue the right path.
We have lost a trusted friend and leader and one of the finest men I have ever had the privilege to meet.
As a member of the rural community, I am honored to be apart of what Jake work so hard to defend and thank God for allowing me to be apart of this brotherhood and sisterhood of the finest people in Arizona and knowing families like the Flake's. I pray for the Flake family and know in your hearts that Jake had such love and belief in you all . He shared with me the many joys his family brought to him-- that is what we worked to defend our families. I will share with you the words of a Christian song ..that reminds me so much of him:
."When the Lord is in your heart there are two in the saddle and you never ride alone again"..that is Jake...He does not ride alone the LORD WAS DEEP IN HIS HEART..and his family does not ride alone, I know the Lord is with each of you in your heart.
May the Lord bless and keep each one of you and know we have the best advocate for us in heaven! Thank you for sharing him with us.
Many prayers many blessings..much love

Senator Jake Flake was a fine man endowed with the wisdom of many years spent doing the to which he had been called. He was a cowman in the truest sense, and he was an honest, fair and humble servant of the people of the state of Arizona. He did more to help agriculture and rural Arizona than most of the rest of the legislature combined. He never jumped to judgment, and acted on deeply held principles and unshakable faith. I am honored to have known him, and will miss his fine example. Thanks Jake, Via con Dios!

Dear family,
I want to say Jake Flake was one of the finest gentleman I have ever known. He treated everyone the same. Jake was famous for his kind, courteous and positive personality.
He was a joy and upbeat to be with him. I was deeply moved that in the obituary it noted: Mission President, Stake President, High Councilor and nursery worker.......
We will all miss him but his tradition will always be with us.
Love and condolences.
Sincerely,

Truth be told, I don't know if Jake Flake and I would have agreed on a whole lot of things, but it has been an honor just to have known him on a first name basis, and to have worked with him on several issues over the years. Thank you to his family for sharing him with the people of Arizona, and sincerest condolences to his family on their deep loss.

To the Flake Family: My husband Bruce Eastlake and I wish to express our condolences to the family of Senator Jake Flake. He was such a kind and wonderful man who will be missed. I have known the Flake family for many years and had the privilage of working with Senator Flake when I served as Executive Vice President of the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association (ACGA) and he represented the great state of Arizona in the legislature. Senator Flake and his brother Jed, a past president of the ACGA and who preceeded him in death, have been champions of the cattle industry since birth and men like these two gentlemen are few and far between. Our prayers and thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow.

My heart goes out to Mary Louise and Family.
There is a special place in my heart for President Flake. I've known him ever since I can remember. No matter how busy he was or how many people were in a crowded room, he would always take the time to come over and visit with me. I was always surprised at how much he remembered about me, what with his many acquaintances and closer relatives than I to keep track of. Especially in recent years when our meetings were few and far between, he would often pick up where we left off and always made me laugh.
He is a great man and has a wonderful family, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

Jake was always such a strong voice for rural Arizona, agriculture, and just plain old common sense that I can hardly believe he's gone. What an honor it was to rub shoulders with him over the years.
My prayer is that Mary Louise and the rest of the Flake family find solace in the living legacy that Senator Flake has left behind. May we all try to combine his strength of conviction and his congeniality. A blending of these qualities is rare everywhere, but especially in politics.
God Bless you Jake Flake.

How shocked and saddened we were to learn of the passing of this great man. How privileged we were to know both of you and most of your children. What a great legacy you have. When I was relatively new in the governor's job, Senator Flake invited me to join him for a visit at the ranch. I fondly remember the pride he expressed in his Arizona land, his family, and in our state's heritage.
It was a privilege to have known and worked with him. I pray that the anguish his family now feels will ease, and over time, be replaced with the joy of their own memories of Jake Flake, his good works and his strong Arizona legacy.

I knew Jake as "Senator Flake" most of the time, and he did a fabulous job for the state as Senator Flake. However, we will all remember how he was even more special as "Jake" with his friendly smile and kind heart. He taught me a lot about listening and about Arizona. Mary Louise and the Flake Family:
When I first met you and Jake "officially" in June of 1997, I could tell that Jake would be a "winner" for the Arizona Legislature. As Governor, I knew that Jake could be counted on not only for his support for "greater Arizona", and ranching and agricultural interests, but also as one who was open to moving Arizona into the future.
His word was his bond. He brought his honor, his humor, his humility and and his "walking around common sense" into a political process which so desperately needs those qualities.
My prayers and thoughts are with you, your children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Dear Mary Louise:
A number of years ago I had the good fortune to meet with Jake and you by sharing a cab ride in Washington DC shortly after Jake became an Arizona Representative.
In subsequent interactions with Jake he reminded of the wise grandfather whom gave sage advice to his family. However, Jake’s family extended well beyond his bloodline.
He kept his word, was fair-minded, had wisdom, and most notably knew the value of family. That enabled Jake to be a great father and a wise legislator. I am honored to have shared some time with Jake, and you. God is surely with your family.

You never heard an unkind word about the dignified, humble and immeasurably honorable rancher from Snowflake. I don’t know what word means “patriotic” when it’s applied to one’s state rather than to one’s country. Whatever that word is, Jake Flake embodied that spirit of love for Arizona that includes rare statesmanship and a profound respect for the people and natural heritage of Arizona. I can’t help but think that a precious, unappreciated era is slipping away with his passing. He will be sorely missed. God bless you, Jake Flake and thank you for sharing your light with the people of Arizona.

Dear Sister Flake and family of my great friend Jake,
I have just received word this morning of the passing of this good man who served for a long time as one of the great stake presidents of the Church. During the time I was a member of the Seventies Quorum I had many occasions to be with him. He was a great assistant and a really true friend. I noticed he was only 72 when he passed away. That is far too young for a great soul like him.
He was not only a fine stake president, but a friend to everybody. He was an important man in your part of the world. I was proud of him when he got to the legislature and even more so when he got to become a Senator. The influence of this good man has been felt by many, many people.
As I look back over the years that I have served in Welfare, and the many hundreds of people I have met in 35 years of traveling around the Church, Jake stands out as one of the finest, most friendly, and best friend that I have met. My heart is deeply touched in learning of his passing.
I sincerely send my condolences to Sister Flake and to all of the family. The memory of this good man will live on for a long, long time. May the peace of heaven be poured out upon all of you in great abundance.
Sincerely your friend and brother,
Glen L. Rudd

Senator Flake has been a giant in spirit and in body. He filled his roll as statesman and gentleman like no other man could do.
We will certainly miss him. I wonder what kind of committees are being formed on the other side already.
This is yet another void in the Legislature and in the White Mountain community that we will not recover from for many years.
My favorite memory of him was when he came up with a panel of legislators to hear local input on rural issues. Most of the legislators he traveled with were women. His opening statement was that "traveling with so many women legislators was like hearding cats."
I don't think some of the women thought it was funny, but you had to laugh. That's just the way Jake was and everyone loved that about him.
Jake was dedicated servant who stood by his principles and never strayed from his dedication to family, friends, conservative values, hard work and his life long love of the earth and nature.

God Bless Big Jake. You will be missed greatly, my friend.
Among the greatest honors when serving as the Maricopa County Republican Party Chairman during the 2004 election was touring the state and speaking to grassroots Republicans with Speaker Flake. He always remained faithful to his conservative principles, but never failed to reach out to all in our party to provide civility and much needed leadership. Jake held us all together. During our down time, he loved to tell stories of Arizona, politics and ranching, but there was nothing he loved more than his family - Mary Louise, his children and grandchildren - when he spoke of you, his smile was broad and his eyes were their brightest. Godspeed Jake.

Senator Flake was a mentor, and guide for me and so many other young people. His good humor and common sense will be missed around the Legislature. His exceptional work for his constituents and people around Arizona can never be replaced. We will miss you, Senator!

3 generations of my family has considered Jake Flake a great friend. My now-deceased grandfathers thought Jake Flake walked on water -- now he does. What a reuinion they're having! Jake is a wonderful example to his family, friends, and the people of Arizona. We'll sure miss you, Jake.

I had the honor to meet Senator Flake through committee work with Valley Partnership and the Arizona Association for Economic Development. Jake remindered me so much of the late US Senator Sam Ervine and I found Jake to be very much the very steady influence in our legislature as Senator Ervine was in Congress. Jake will be very much missed by all who knew him.

Mary Louise and family -
I was shocked when Larry called to tell me his uncle Jake had died. I couldn't hold back the tears. Jake and I were the best of friends in high school, co-captains on the football team, etc.
We lived just North of the Schneider's home and every morning I would pick up Jody Hunt and then grab Jake on the way to school... We had so much fun together. Most days as I would drop Jake off after school, he would invite me in and we would enjoy some of Gerda's home made bread, milk and onions...the best! When we would see one another through the years, he would always give me a "bear hug" greeting. I will miss those monsterous hugs, as I am sure everyone else will too. He was, indeed, a gentle giant of a man!
I will miss him greatly. I will honor him always. And, I will look forward to that "bear hug" when we meet again.
As I will be attending the wedding of a granddaughter in Provo, (assuming services will be next Saturday, June 14) I will be unable to join the throngs of people who will attend and pay tribute to Jake, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you always.
May your many memories of this good man, husband, father and grandfather, friend, and great public servant, flood your hearts continually and bring you comfort, peace and eternal joy.

Mary Louise and family-
It has been said that what we do in this life echoes in the eternities! Jake's influence will have lasting impact on so many forever. He is truly a great servant of the Lord. We cherish the years we spent in "Flakeville" and getting to know your family. May the Lord bless you all in this time of sorrow.

"We're missing a friend and a neighbor, For his ridin' days are o'er. He's hung up his spurs and saddle, won't be using them no more....
"Jake has just rode into the sunset, up over the Great Divide. Gone to help with the Master's herd: Made his last long ride.....
"So we say, 'Adios, Amigo'. We whisper fond 'good-bye'. Jake's gone to another roundup. The one up in the sky."
We will miss you greatly, dear friend.

Dear Flake Family,
I am so saddened to hear of your loss. Senator Flake is a friend to our family and to my deceased father, Boyd Tenney.
He served with honor and will be missed. His passing, to me, is the passing is the epitome of great men and women that have served in the AZ legislature.
May God Bless you in your time of trial.
