Karl Hansen Obituary

Hansen, Karl B.
86 of Sun city, AZ, passed away on October 21, 2008. Karl was born in Tilden, NE on December 14, 1921. He was the only son born to Bruno and Caroline Hansen. Karl graduated from high school in Tilden and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from University of Nebraska. After college, Karl entered active duty in the Army in 1946 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1948. He served as a doctor during the rebuilding of Tokyo and achieved the rank of Captain. Karl returned to the states and served his medical internship in New York City. Karl met his future wife there, and later married Ann Katherine Gillespie of Murfreesboro, TN on May 27, 1950. They celebrated fifty years of marriage in 2000. Katherine preceded him in death October 14, 2000. Karl is survived by his two sisters, Beata and Gretchen of Sun City, AZ; his daughter, Susan Bentley; and his 3 sons, Mark, Michael, & Brian; as well as his 3 grandchildren, Alexis, Julia & Derek. After his internship, Karl moved to Illinois where he bacame the head of medicine at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL, then went into pharmaceutical research for Smith, Kline, & French as Medical Director & finally worked for Armour Pharmaceutical, where he was Vice President of Medical Affairs until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, Karl and Kathy stayed in Phoenix. Karl will be sorely missed, but we celebrate his life, his accomplishments, his honor & integrity, and his devotion to his family and friends. Karl was well-loved and admired by everyone who knew him. There will be a private ceremony held at Resthaven Park Cemetery for family. Arrangements by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary.
