Lillian Main Obituary

Main, Lillian Opal Thomason
Lillian Opal Thomason Main passed peacefully in her sleep on December 2, 2013 at the remarkable age of 100. She is preceded in death by husband Albert (2008), son Albert Jr. (1982), and granddaughter Kelli McDuff (2010).
Opal is survived by her daughter Joyce Main McLain (Larry), grandchildren Jill McLain Blackburn (Del), Jenny McLain Kaiser (Aaron), Charlene Melson, and Albert Main III. She was also the proud Nana to 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Opal was born November 28, 1913 in Tulia, Texas. She moved to Mesa with her parents George and Molly and brother Don in 1922. She attended elementary school in Lehi and graduated in 1931 from Mesa High School. It was there she met the love of her life, Albert Main. They married in 1932, and raised their children Joyce and Albert Jr., known to the family as Sonny, in South Phoenix. Opal was a cosmetologist, floral arranger, and prize winning cook. She was the oldest living continuous member of the Roosevelt Neighborhood Women's Club and served as their president in 1957 and 1958. In 1957, she and Albert finished their dream summer home in Oak Creek Canyon where they spent the next 50 years wintering in Phoenix, and spending the summers in Oak Creek. Opal and Albert were married more than 76 years until Albert's death in 2008 at age 97.
Opal held a grand 100th birthday celebration on November 23rd where she greeted more than 95 family and friends who gathered to help her celebrate her extraordinary day. She planned her party which included a catered buffet lunch, a gorgeous homemade birthday cake, children playing music and singing for her, and lots of hugs.
Smile when you think of Opal and her spirit of life. She made it 100 years, what an accomplishment, what a woman! She will be terribly missed, but we are grateful to have had her in our lives for so many years.
Lowman's Funeral Home will be handling arrangements for private services and interment. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Roosevelt Neighborhood Women's Club, 1044 W. McNeil St., Phoenix AZ, 85041.

Joy, Larry, Jill and Jenny - my heart aches for you at the loss of dear great Aunt Opal. Our family Easter picnics just won't be the same without her shining smile!

What a joy she was to everyone who knew her. I know she was always one of my Mom's favorite aunts.

God bless her and I'm sure Uncle Albert was tickled to embrace her again. Their love story was one in a million!!

Hugs,

Karen
