Margaret Vegh Obituary

Margaret Vegh, 91, of Phoenix, passed away March 4, 2008. Margaret was born July 4, 1916 in Toledo, Ohio to Steven and Anna (Nagy) Vegh. She attended St. Stephen's School and Church. During WWII she was employed in a local factory as an inspector and was active in the union. Margaret spent many summers working at a children's summer camp in Sand Lake, MI. In 1956, Margaret and her father moved to Chandler, AZ and she started working at St. Mary's Parish. It was 1968 when she moved to Phoenix and there she touched so many lives at St. Theresa Parish. Margaret was a cook and conscience for many priests before her retirement in 1991. It was her strong faith that directed her to the years of love and caring for numerous priests. Margaret had a full life of travel. She visited Japan in 1953, by freighter. On her return trip she came through the Panama Canal. There were many trips to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Margaret also visited the Holy Land, Hungary, Italy and Ireland. She returned to Toledo for many visits over the years. One momentous occasion in her life was receiving Holy Communion from Pope John Paul II when he was in Phoenix. Margaret enjoyed cooking and feeding people. Over the years she served many priests and bishops. She was quick to offer refreshments to visitors. She always had hard candy to slip into someone's hand. Margaret always had a kind word, time to lend an ear and a contagious smile. She was an active member of the Christ Child Society for many years. She enjoyed life. Margaret is preceded in death by brothers Steven Rohaly and Frank Vegh and sisters Matilda Vegh and Helen David. Margaret is survived by sisters Elizabeth (Bozs) Arvay, Anna (George) Keller, three nieces, seven nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., with Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, March 9th, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 10th, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Rd., with interment following at St. Francis Cemetery.
