Nathan Daniel "Nate" Yates

Nathan Yates Obituary

Yates, David
Nathan "Nate" Daniel Yates, age 32, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009. Born July 26, 1976, Nate enjoyed life to the fullest as a third-generation native of Arizona. He is survived by his parents; mother Shirley Lafferty and father Stephen Yates, sister Stephanie Yates, and grandparents, Ruth VonHagel and L.V. & Edith Yates. Nathan attended Coronado High School through 1994. Charismatic, charming and absolutely hilarious, Nate's greatest passion was interacting with people and building friendships. He would make you laugh until you cried. His love for the others around him guided his decisions in life and eventually became part of his career. He recently started organizing events that brought people together to have fun and enjoy life, and used the proceeds he raised to benefit various charities. A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16th, 2009 with the viewing to be held Friday, May 15th from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Green Acres Mortuary 401 N. Hayden Rd. I miss you so much. Thanks for loving me for those three memorable, fun-filled years (even though we lived on concrete floors for 1/2 of that time).
I will always love you and will hold you close to my heart- forever.

How do you pick just one favorite memory of Nate?? My memories are all great. What I will remember most is always laughing. I never knew what Nate was gonna do next, but that it would be memorable. I will never forget Nate's magnetic personality and his ability to bring light to every situation or setting he was in. Nate will be sadly missed and gladly remembered.

Nate worked for us as General Manager at Advanced Leak. He was always so happy and dedicated. He often would come in and we enjoyed teasing each other. He was such a great guy and we are sorry to see him go. He definitely touched our lives.

Octoberfest 2008- Jenn's mom's house. I knew Nate in high school and re-met him later in life through Staci. On this particular night it was Nate's first time playing LCR. He was so excited to learn, and even more so when he won the 2nd pot. We even nicknamed the dollar bills "Jorge" (pronounced Horhay). Miss you Nate- Rest in peace.

My favorite memory... All of them. All the trips to Rocky Point. I will miss you and remember you. "This is why we don't have nice things."

May 31, 2009

Oh my... there are so many memories I don't know where to begin. Aside from the RCPM shows in Rocky Point, and the beers shared at many events and gatherings, oh, and of course the bicycle poker runs, my favorite memory of Nate is talking with him by the fire on a camping trip after almost everyone else had gone to sleep. He shared with me his hopes for his future. It was an intimate conversation and Nate shared a vulnerability I had not experienced before. I felt close to him and remember being grateful that he trusted me enough to share his hopes and dreams. I will hold these memories close to my heart always. Love you, dear friend.

Nate was like a brother to me. He was always teasing me. He called me Trouble when I came home from work. I always heard him talking to his friends outside. I'm sorry about what happened.

We were neighbors, and we were locked out of our apartment. We had our infant and she was so fussy and it was cold! My husband and I were panicking- when we saw Nate. He asked us if we needed help... Long story short, he went out of his way to break into our apartment! (Don't tell Violet). He had come out because he heard our baby crying. That night he was our hero (and Dave too). What a great guy! Andy, Michelle & Mya Bates

Nate- I hope you knew the effect you had on people (something tells me you did). You were such a charmer... and one of the two funniest guys I know. Mike is missing the other half of his comedy team, and I miss you too. Love you.

Know that Nate is still with us because:

When you hear thunder, it is God and all the Saints laughing.

When you see lightning, Nate just asked God for a light.

When you see rain, you will know Nate has everyone in heaven laughing so hard they are crying.

When you see nothing but blue sky you will know he fixed the filter.

Forever will you will live through us!

With a jovial tale and a smiling face...who did St. Peter welcome at the pearly gates...but our one and only Nate Yates.

He ventured inside, saw Angels and Saints, and asked (in Nate's distinctive voice), “What is this place?”

He walked on further, saw family and friends, that left us before... he thought their time would never end.

He circled around while surveying the sight and asked, “By the way, is it ladies night?”

He thought twice why he was there and asked St. Peter if he could share. “What I am doing, why am I here…where are my family and friends I have always found so dear?”

St. Peter said Nate, "Go back to the gates, look down below and you’ll see all the people that LOVE YOU Nate Yates"

I love you buddy! - Kyle

Growing up with Nate was a basket over flowing with the best stories anyone could ever have the honor of telling. One of so many of my favorite memories extends over our years as friends. Starting back in the good old Club Rio Sunday nights… We had the most amazing chemistry when we were dancing (well probably in our own minds anyway). It was as though we had the whole place to ourselves. We would take over the whole floor swing dancing (the best any two 18 year olds with no experience could) to rap music. HA HA! 3 day weekends couldn’t come soon enough!

Nate, I just met you in the fall...what an amazing guy! Your laughter and joy are contagious! Peace and comfort to all who mourn for you, Nate. Yet somehow I think you would want all to have JOY and laughter when remembering you! Here's to YOU, Nate!

One night; 12 years later (the year of our big 30) we reminisced about those days and tried so hard to get those steps back with all the magic. But, it just wasn’t happening. We laughed together so hard we could hardly stand, dumbfounded that we just couldn’t get the steps no matter how hard we tried. We couldn’t figure out why we couldn’t dance anymore and blamed it on being 30. I think we both had bruises on our feet from stepping on each other. It was just a few months ago that we sat back and laughed again wondering if we could resynchronize our steps for a Swing Dancing Event. I’m confident one of us would’a been going home with a black eye. Probably me! ;-D

"Thank you for being a friend". I am so happy to have been in your life, and that you were in mine. When I made mistakes, you let me make them and never said I told you so when you were right. I will miss you each and everyday, and I love you.
