Patrick McGoldrick Obituary

McGoldrick, Patrick Joseph "Joe"
82, died October 19, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Ignatius College Prep and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, where he had received a basketball scholarship. He served in the Illinois National Guard for six years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. After working for Ford Aircraft Engine Division for five years and General Electric Computer Department for seven years, Joe retired from Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector. At Motorola, where he worked for 33 years, he was a Procurement Manager focusing on travel, services, and minority-hiring programs. He became the first Certified Purchasing Manager of Motorola and was elected President of the Purchasing Management Association of Arizona 1975-76. He was a member of the General Electric Computer Department Alumni. Joe was a big fan of the Scottsdale Senior Center where he and his wife, Joan, spent many memorable hours working out and visiting with friends. Joe had friends everywhere; if you knew him you liked him. Most importantly, Joe loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In his last years, Joe faced the rigors of cancer with the resolve, grace, and dignity he was always known for. His family thanks the medical professionals and caregivers who have blessed them. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Patricia McGoldrick, eight children, and ten grandchildren: Mary Kelly and her three sons Brian, Devin and Brendan; Anne McGoldrick and her partner Brent Bieser; Jane Wisniewski, her husband Robert, Jane's daughters Molly Lamm and her fiancé Alonzo Corral, and Betsy Lamm and her husband Rob Kroehler; Paul McGoldrick, his wife Regina, and their daughters Kate, Haley, and Maggie; Grace Jones and her husband Terry; Mark McGoldrick and his wife Mia Feldbaum; Sara Balder, her husband Mike, and their sons Jack and Quinn; and Amy Pauling and her husband Derrick. Visitation will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, Friday, October 22, 2010 at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday October 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 6261 N. I can't say enough about how wonderful a human being Mr. McGoldrick was as a father, grandfather, and friend. I am so sorry that he has passed but it is impossible for me to remain sad because I have all of the warm thoughts of the great conversations that I shared with him to reflect on.
I know that the impact of his life continues on and is evidenced in the warmth, caring, generosity, humor, and love that his family has always displayed. I miss you guys and am thinking about you during this time of grief.
Heaven just got a ringer.

I was fortunate to have grown up with the McGoldrick family. Joe was a consummate adviser in my life. He would stop whatever he was doing always to listen and ask questions. His responses were based on common sense real life experiences. He would treat me like an adult long before I ever became one.

I will sorely miss having such a great friend neighbor and consultant in my life. He was a great Father as evidenced by his wonderful family.
