Phyllis Devlin Obituary

Devlin, Phyllis A.
passed away on May 8, after a resolute battle with recurring Lymphoma. Phyllis was born in Chicago, August 18, 1937, to Joseph and Stella Biesiadecki. After graduating from Harrison High School in Chicago she became a stenographer at American Steel Foundries where she met her future husband, Mortimer G. Mullin. Phyllis and Mort married in 1959 and moved to Niles, IL. She worked at Leo Burnett Advertising Agency until her sons Mark and Scott were born. After becoming a single Mom, Phyllis worked at Scott Foresman and as a social worker assistant at Resurrection Hospital. She always enjoyed summer visits with her children to her parents' farm in Necedah, WI. In 1972, Phyllis married Brian Devlin and moved to Scottsdale, AZ, where she became mother of Dorothy and Brian Devlin and in 1976 had daughter Jennifer. In 1979 Phyllis joined Broadway Southwest in Mesa, AZ. She later was a patient accounts manager in adolescent inpatient psychiatry at the Wendy Paine O'Brien Center in Scottsdale and as patient advocate at Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital where she provided immense support for patients and their families. She retired in 1999. Phyllis (fondly known by some family as "Ms. Divine") was proud of her Polish heritage, evidenced in part by unique culinary skills. Special thanks are due to Phyllis's daughter, Jennifer, R.N., sisters Agnes and Loretta, and to Barbara Peck, Connie Pontnak, Pat Thorpe, Carol Carr, Karrie Schultz and other Trilogy friends. Holly Roblee and Anne Barton also gave Phyllis their exceptional loving care. Phyllis is survived by her sons Mark and Scott (Christine) Mullin, her daughter Jennifer Kathleen Devlin and stepchildren Dorothy and Brian Devlin. Also sisters Loretta Vratanina of AZ, Agnes Colling of IL, and grandchildren Luke, Paige, Brooke, and Amy Mullin of CA and Jacob John Mullin of MD. Phyllis leaves behind her adoring cats, Missy and Cleo, who will miss her every day. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marvin, and former husband Mortimer Gerard Mullin. Donations in Phyllis's memory may be made to the Lymphoma Society or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Mass will be Tuesday, May 21, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Queen Creek, AZ, at 11 AM. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Necedah, WI. What a difference Phyllis has made in the lives of her family and friends who will miss her wisdom, courage, and sense of humor!
