Thomas McVicker Obituary

McVicker, Thomas "Tom" Arthur
61, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on August 10, 2013. Thomas Arthur McVicker passed away at home on August 10, 2013. Tom was born in Flushing, NY on August 23, 1951, the son of Archie and Ann McVicker . He is survived by his mother Ann McVicker, sister Teresa McVicker Cycon, brother in law Michael Cycon, daughter Michelle McVicker, son Sean McVicker, grandson Bryson McVicker, nieces Cathy Woodruff and Denise Pieroni. He is preceded in death by his father, Archie McVicker. Tom loved his family above all else. He left a successful career in aerospace to become a stay-at-home dad. In later years, he loved to travel and was able to see much of England, Scotland, France, Canada and Mexico before settling in Ahwatukee, Arizona. He was well known for giving advice and loved to talk with people about any issue. The friends of his children often gathered at his house and included Tom in most of the discussions. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 Thursday, August 15 at Tempe Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to NAMI - Arizona (National Alliance on Mental Illness, Arizona chapter).

Tom reached out to me a few years back. A first cousin, I hadn't spoken to Tom since the family moved to Tempe. It was good to hear what a thoughtful man he had become. I wish my Aunt Ann, my cousin Theresa and his children strength during this very difficult period. Tom died far too young.

I never knew Tom by his name. I always called Vadi. He was like a second dad to me. I enjoyed all the nights we listened to music of his time and conversing about items from the distant past. I will miss him a lot. May he rest in peace

Mrs. McVicker and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences. Tom had an ability to discuss multiple issues with anyone. He enjoyed hearing more about others than speaking about himself, resulting in Tom knowing the pulse of the organizations he interfaced with at work - AlliedSignal, Home Depot or Mercedes Benz. Tom always respected another's opinion, thus he interfaced well and received the respect of others. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
