Thomas Quaid Obituary

Quaid, Thomas Brendan
78, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2012 from complications related to pancreatic cancer. Tom was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois in 1933. In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart Nancy Jackson. They spent their first years of marriage in Trier, Germany where Tom served in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force they moved to Champaign-Urbana and lived there for four years as Tom attended the University of Illinois. After graduating, the young family moved up to the greater Chicago area where Tom took a job with Motorola. In 1968 the Quaid family, now including children, Tom Jr., Teresa, Pete and Pat moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Tom worked for Motorola for many years, retired, decided retirement wasn't for him, went to work for Spectrum Astro and then retired for real this time. Nancy took ill with ALS in 2007. Tom made it his job to care for Nancy's every need, and he was very good at his job. In 2009 the love of his life passed away. It has been said that greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Tom truly showed his family and friends what love looked like as he laid down his life to care for his wife. The family sends their thanks and appreciation to those who cared for Tom while he battled pancreatic cancer, in particular the caring professionals at TGen Clinical Research Services in Scottsdale and the loving people at the Sherman Home Hospice Center in Phoenix. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale on Saturday, January 28th at 10am. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St, Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Tom accomplished some great things in his life, but i am most grateful to him for the wonderful children he raised - several of whom have been my dear friends. He was a really generous and lovely man and i know he's happy to be with Nancy now. my love to all the family.

I met Tom at Spectrum Astro many years ago. He instantly made you feel like you were family – he was always very caring and sincere. Since I also originated from Chicago and Motorola we always had a lot to talk about. Tom enriched the lives of all those he met and knew – I'm glad I was one of them. My heart goes out to those he has left behind and for your sorrow in this difficult time. May God be with you all.

Tom and Nancy were both dear friends of Pat and I. I have known Tom and his family since 1966 when he was my first boss at Motorola. When I married Pat they opened up their beautiful home for our wedding reception. We want to extend our sincere sympathy to Tom Jr., Theresa, Pete, Pat and all the Quaid family. Now that Tom and Nancy are reunited in Heaven may they rest in peace as God holds them in the palm of his hand.

Tom & Nancy were former neighbors of mine in Scottsdale, as well as members of the same church I still belong to. For years, Nancy & I spent many pleasant hours walking & talking on the canal behind her house. Tom was never far away, and always very considerate of her needs. He once gave me an old computer monitor of his when mine broke, which I use to this day. Family was always of prime importance for both of them, and they loved the trips to see the kids and grandkids. May God bless Tom, Nancy, and their family who grieves for their loss.
