My heartfelt condolences goes out to the family and love ones of my friend Bill Stovall. I have known Bill for a number of years back in Miss. Now we are sadden, but can rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that our suffering over the passing of Bill has produce endurance, and our endurance produces the character like the Bill I once knew; and his character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, to go forward since God's love has been poured into our hearts as I knew Bill Stovall, would truly wish the Holy Spirit to given to us; all his family and extended friends in his remembrance. I was on a panel with Bill years back and knew his character. Peace be with you Bill.

Dear Sylvia and family,
I just learned yesterday before Mass at Mt Carmel about Bill's death. I was so saddened to hear that this good man is gone. Bill always had kind and encouraging words and the best hug anywhere! I know he is in a far better place, one to which we all hope to be. And I know, Sylvia, that God's unending love will surround you and your family and give you all the comfort you need until you see Bill again. Love and prayers for you and your family will be coming from our house.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Stovall was my biology teacher at South. He was pleasant, professional, caring and the perfect example of a teacher and mentor. Years later I went through medic training and was always asked, "How did you know that answer?" I would just smile and remember telling them they would have to ask Mr. Stovall. 41 years later I am still using information Mr. Stovall shared with us in class. Please take care!!!!

When I think about a South Phoenix community, I think about Mr. and Mrs. Stovall. Two teachers that touched the lives of so many students, including mine. My heart goes out to you Mrs. Stovall and the entire Stovall family. Coach Stovall, although we ribbed each other about my Sun Devil and his Wildcats... South Phoenix lost a fighter...but I know the sun will continue to shine brighter because his smile will continue to shine upon our community. RiP Coach.

I believe this with all my heart: The greatest coach of all time in my eyes is Coach William Stovall. Coach Stovall did not win a Super Bowl, a College National Championship or a State High School Championship. Coach Stovall instilled in me and many others a toughness and a perseverance..."Never Quit Mentality". I am proud to have been one of many young men Coach Stovall took under his wing. As a teacher, he taught us to always give your best effort. He mentored and groomed many of us to become better Men, Fathers and productive citizens. I will never forget the years I had the privilege and opportunity to be coached by the "Greatest Coach Of All Time", William Stovall. Coach, I love you from the bottom of my heart; you will be missed.

Thanks, Marcus Glover. Class of 1988

March 6, 2014

My heartfelt condolences to the Stovall family; my thoughts and prayer go out to you at this solemn time. Although I never had Mr. Sovall as a teacher during my years at South Mountain HS, I did have the great fortune to have him as a personal mentor, as he would take time during his day to always answer questions for me about physical training. Being a small guy, I was an even smaller teenager and his insight in helping me to develop my own physical training was invaulable, especially considering the great shape he was in at that time being a man 'over 50'. Mr. Stovall you were never forgotten, have been a frequent fond recollection in relaying stories to my children, and will never be forgotten by so much of us whose lives you changed without even being aware of it. God be with you, you were 'The Man'. - Paul Jasso / Class of 84 - Rebels

Coach Stovall you will be missed. You taught at SMHS for 37 years and I was lucky enough to be there for 4 of them. You and your son, Russ, coached South Mountain Football and made it an enjoyable time in my life. I remember when you would look to see who was going to play football on the freshman and JV teams and ask "when am I gonna see you in my class". Everybody knew they had to take Biology, but, you made it worth it. Something I will never forget. From the first time I put pads on to the last, it was a great time to be playing Football for the Rebels. My thoughts and prayers are with the Stovall Family. Thanks Coach, you will be missed.

March 6, 2014

Sylvia, you and your entire family are in our prayers. May your many years of making precious memories fill your sorrowed hearts with laughter and smiles in time as life goes on. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. May you also find some comfort in The 23rd Psalm. Bill is at peace and now has eternal life while we stay behind and mourn his going home to our father in glorious Heaven. God bless you and your family during this sad time in your lives. Id like to thank you Mr Stovall for being a great teacher. I have not forgotten you in all these years. Your biology class was my favorite class. The graphic movies that we would see in your class of drunk driving and what it could result in. I tell my children that your class kept me from ever drinking and driving and kept me away from drugs. Yes your class did this. Your an Angel. Thank You. May you rest in Peace.

I want to send my heartfelt condolences to Sylvia, to Bill and Sylvia's children, along with all of the grandchildren. It has been a while since I have seen all of you, but I have thought of you and Coach Stovall quite often over the years. We had quite the bodybuilding "family" at Champions Gym down on Central and some of my favorite memories were made there. Sylvia, you were our "gym mom" and of us big muscle guys truly enjoyed your presence and support at the gym. I won the Novice and Middleweight Mr. Arizona the year that Bill won the over 40 division. We had fun training together, discussing and cussing our severe diets and preparing for events that very few people were able to achieve. At ADEQ, I worked with one of your neighbors, Steve Castillo, and he kept me updated on how things were going for your family through the years; boy was he impressed by bigger than life Coach Stovall. Please keep your family close during these trying times and know that your fond memories of Bill will carry you through this ordeal. I will remember his enormous and infectious smile when I think of him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. RIP coach and give God a front double biceps shot for me. Sincerely, Eric

I just wanted the family to know how sorry I am for the great loss you must be feeling for your beloved William. May the drawing close to God in prayer strengthen and comfort you now and in the days ahead.
