William Tyrell Obituary

William Albert Tyrrell, 1932-2008. Well known businessman William Albert Tyrrell died of a rare cancer in Cheyenne on April 16, 2008. He was born on June 11, 1932 in Oceola, Nebraska to Ace V. and Esther Tyrrell. Tyrrell moved to Cheyenne with his parents from Nebraska. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1950. He was a starter on the undefeated state champion football team and was awarded the coveted white sweater for five varsity letters. He attended the University of Wyoming and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1955. After working in the oil fields of Oklahoma and Kansas, he joined his father, Ace Tyrrell in the automobile business in 1956. He was named Chevrolet dealer in 1962, and started the auto dealer row in 1963 in west Cheyenne. He founded Tyrrell Honda in 1973. He served in the Korean Conflict with the Wyoming National Guard. A lifelong interest in sports included sponsorship of the soap box derby, Tyrrell Chevy Shuffle, numerous golf events, including the Wyoming Open and the Doherty Golf Classic. He is survived by his wife, Freddie, whom he married on January 1, 1984, two daughters, Terry Lee Tyrrell of Phoenix, AZ and Kimberly Tyrrell Love of Forney, TX; son, Brian Tyrrell of Cheyenne; stepchildren, David Doyle of Cheyenne and Deborah Doyle of Ft. Worth, TX; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; sister Jeanette Tyrrell Daly of Fort Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ace V. & Esther Tyrrell and his step-mother, Ellen Tyrrell. Funeral Liturgy will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Carl Beavers as celebrant. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations to the Mark Doherty Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2934, Cheyenne, WY 82003, in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Tyrell,
