Cecil Parker Obituary

Cecil Adolph Parker, 85, of Bakersfield was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Cecil was born on October 15, 1930 in Lowndes County, GA to Oscar and Evelyn Parker, and dedicated his life to ministry and the calling God placed on him; saving the lost and bringing them into the Kingdom of God. Cecil studied at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN, pastored at multiple churches, including Highland Assembly of God, which brought him to Bakersfield in 1974, and Bakersfield New Life Center where he worked under Pastor James Ranger until his retirement in 2002.

Cecil was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, brother, mentor and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Oscar Parker, Evelyn Parker, Wallace Parker, Comer Parker, Charles Parker and his children's mother, Eleanor. Cecil leaves behind his beloved wife, Liz; siblings, Gerald Parker and Mary Varnadoe, and children Paul (Debbie), Bob (Cara), David (Vicki), Andy (Tawni) and stepdaughters Debbie (Phillip) Page, Janie (Tom) Blackford and Pam (Bob) Watkins. He was very loved by his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Canyon Hills Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hoffman Hospice of Bakersfield.

Pastor Cecil the greeter. Always had a kind word for people and a hug. Never at a loss for welcoming new people to New life Center. He is home with God now probably greeting others with his hugs. He will and is missed.

Dad and I once played golf with Cecil. He was a very kind and loving person who was a joy to be around for 18 holes.

What s great man you are! In my hard days, I could always count on being greeted with a smile on Sunday's. You helped me stay focused on the prize, Jesus Christ , during my dark days. You told me never give up. Thank you for sharing with me your tough times in life . It helped me to know I too could get through them. Your are an inspiration to many and you are not forgotten. I know you are the happiest man right now. Enjoy our King!

May our Lord comfort you Liz, and all the Parker family and the extended families.
I often remember all those life-stories that Cecil told. They still bring joy to my spirit.

my heart was very sad to hear the news of Pastor Cecil's death....yet rejoicing for I know he is home with the Lord (which actually makes me quite jealous)....Pastor Cecil will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart (1) back in 1995 he & one or more of his sons gave of their time & blood donation to my granny (Flossie Pack) when she was facing open heart surgery...she was so worried about bad blood...they gave and said she "was now part of the Parker family".... and (2) when my son Robert (now 21) was born Pastor Cecil would always be @ the front doors @ NLC to greet us, ALWAYS wearing his suits...began shaking Robert's hand from birth...along the time Robert began walking & talking he'd walk up to Pastor Cecil (of whom he called G.Pa Cecil) and stick out his hand...if Pastor was busy greeting others Robert would wait..he would not enter the doors until he shook hands w. "G.Pa Cecil"...God bless you for touching our lives in many ways...Physically & Spiritually changed forever because of you Pastor Cecil...see you soon...Love Bridgett McDonald :)
