Chistine Vidaurreta Obituary

CHRISTINE SPARKS VIDAURRETA

July 30, 1945 – June 28, 2025

Christine Sparks Vidaurreta, age 79, of Bakersfield, California passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2025 after a courageous battle against cancer.

Christine was born in Tucson, Arizona to Christine Waer Sparks and Ignacio Tadasona Sparks. At a young age, her family moved to San Fernando, California. Christine attended San Fernando High School and from there she trained and worked for Pacific Bell as a telephone operator and was one of the first women to work as a Draftsman. She married Javier Vidaurreta in 1974 and they moved to Bakersfield in 1977 to start a farming business, which they successfully ran for 40+ years. Simultaneously, she worked as a bookkeeper at St. Philip the Apostle Church, raised a family and continued to stay busy working in real estate up until her final days.

She loved being creative, which she most beautifully expressed through her sewing and quilting. You could often find her in her sewing room working on her latest project while listening to an audiobook. Throughout her life she created unique and meaningful works for family and her community. For many years she actively helped raise funds for her church and other causes close to her heart. Like her mother, she loved having family and friends over to enjoy her delicious "Mama V" tacos.

Christine is survived by her husband Javier, children Bettina (Ben) and John (Hannah), 4 grandchildren and her siblings Bill, Herman and Yolonda. She was preceded in death by her sister Betty.

Christine was fun loving, devoted to her family and friends and had a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Building Fund in Christine's memory.

On July 8, 2025 a Rosary will be held at 9:30 am with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 12300 Reina Rd, Bakersfield, CA, 93312. A graveside ceremony to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield, CA, 93305.
