DOMINIC MICHAEL ONAINDIA
March 21, 1978 - April 15, 2021
Dominic Michael Onaindia was born in Bakersfield, California on March 21, 1978 to Jesus and Marilou Onaindia, and passed away peacefully in his home on April 15, 2021. He was a 1996 graduate of West High and an alumnus of San Joaquin Valley College. Dominic married Ashley Waterfield on October 10, 2003. Together they had three beautiful children, Riley, Julian and Alexis. Dominic lived life with a passion for family, faith and fun...lighting up any room he entered. He was humorous, loved to joke and laugh, and was always the life of the party. Dominic loved people and would always greet them with the biggest and best hugs! He wore his heart on his sleeve and if he ever saw someone sad or upset, he would joke with them to try to bring them happiness. Dominic cherished his family and friends and was the type of man that would give a stranger his last dollar or the shirt off his back without hesitation. He had a beautiful sensitive soul.
Dominic was very athletic and had a love for all sports. He excelled at soccer, but his true love was playing hockey alongside his younger brother, Nicholas. Together they shared many exciting games and won many championships. Dominic was proud of his Basque heritage and participated in Basque dancing for many years. He loved WWE Wrestling and never missed an episode of Monday Night Raw or the opportunity to wrestle with his kids. Dominic loved kids and animals and they loved him. Dominic was a Correctional Officer for nine years and in 2009 was awarded the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Medal of Valor Silver Star for his acts of bravery and heroism in saving the life of another person. He was also given special recognition by the California State Senate. Dominic's proudest accomplishment in his life was his three children. They were his pride and joy!
Later in life, Dominic met his fiancee, Trisha Sipe who he called his "angel." Trisha was always there for Dominic, always stood by his side, and provided endless unconditional love. She was his rock and lovingly remained by his side until his last breath.
Dominic is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Jacinto and Victoria Onaindia and Fred and Catherine Ansolabehere; his Godparents, Francisco and Patricia Bernal. He is survived by his children, Riley, Julian and Alexis Onaindia; his fiancee, Trisha Sipe and her daughters, Cody and Steevie; parents, Jesus and Marilou Onaindia; sister Kristie (John); brother Nicholas (Kristen); nephew Kyle Unhassobiscay and nieces Katelyn Gomez, Ariana Unhassobiscay, June Onaindia and Winnie Onaindia; Godson, Alex Davis; Goddaughter, Presleigh Gaona and numerous aunts, uncles and extended family members.
