Kristine Busby Obituary

KRISTINE LOUISE BUSBY

April 21, 1950 – April 26, 2025

Bakersfield – Kristine Louise (Stockton) Busby was a beloved wife, mother, Grambee, sister, and aunt. She peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on April 26, 2025 at the age of 75, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration. Her journey on this earth was marked by her warm smile and her unwavering love and dedication to her family and friends. Kristine "Kris," as she was affectionately known, was born on April 21, 1950 to Trent and Erma Stockton in Bakersfield, CA. She was one of three children who grew up on the Horseshoe Ranch. She attended Standard School and graduated from North High School in 1968. Kris went on to study History at California State University Bakersfield earning her Bachelor's Degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. After receiving her degrees, Kris began her teaching career as a second-grade elementary school teacher at St. Marys and then Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH).

While teaching at OLPH, she met her husband, Jay. Kris and Jay were married in 1976 and went on to have two daughters, Jill and Jenee. In addition to teaching and raising her daughters, Kris helped Jay run his air-conditioning business for 30 years. After retiring, Kris enjoyed traveling to Europe and throughout the United States and to her beloved cabin in Alta Sierra. Her most adored moments were being her grandchildrens' biggest fan. She attended every baseball game, soccer game, school concert, and award ceremony. Kris was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Dodger games, and loved playing games: board games, card games, word games, and Mahjong.

Kris was predeceased by her father and mother, Trent and Erma Stockton and her brother, Jeff. She is survived by her husband, Jay; daughters, Jill (Robert) Avila, Jenee (Kent) Sakamoto; her grandchildren Kayla Sakamoto, Wes Avila, and Lennox Avila; her sister, Frankie (David) Olds; her brother-in-law Jon (Kim) Busby, her brother-in-law Joe (Debbie) Busby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will always be our angel and remembered for her kindness and making everyone feel loved, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our family, friends, the staff of Memorial Hospital, and nurses and caregivers of Hoffmann Hospice, who have supported Kris and our family.

Visitation will be Monday, May 5, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Greenlawn Northeast, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield, CA. Celebration of life will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Horseshoe Ranch, 20238 Woody Road, Bakersfield, CA.

In lieu of flowers, Kris requested that donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice, Bakersfield, CA.

When I think of Kris Busby I think of her warm smile and contagious laugh. I was fortunate to grow up knowing Kris, Jay, Jill and Jenee. In addition to our families being long time friends, they were members of our 4-H group the Sierra Mountaineers. Once a month Kris would make the hour long drive from Bakersfield to Glennville for our monthly meetings. She helped organize many of the fun events we enjoyed as kids like the yearly trip to Disneyland and many of our fundraisers. I always admired how close Kris was to her family I would often see her with her sister Frankie the two of them were often together and each would turn up to support the other´s children at 4-H events.

Our families would also see each other at Church and I admired her faith and devotion to raising her children in the Catholic Church.

I was fortunate to be a guest at the Alta Sierra Cabin a few times where we watched movies and played board games and generally just enjoyed each others company. Kris was a great host and always made everyone feel welcome. She loved to laugh at all of our youthful hijinks.

I remember once when Jill and Jenee went camping with our family at our Cabin in Tobias Meadow, being the rotten older brother I decided it would be funny to pull up the stakes on the girls tent while they were still sleeping so, my cousins and I snuck over to the tent and pulled the stakes early one morning collapsing the tent on top of the sleeping girls and soaking them with the water from the early morning dew. The girls were outraged and I´m sure found a way to get us back, I don´t remember, but I do remember Kris laughing and all of us joking about the event.

The last time I saw Kris was at my Grandpas funeral she gave me a big hug and we talked about how proud she was of her girls and grandkids. Of course Jay was right there by her side always quick with a joke and Kris just as quick with a laugh. I really didn´t even know she had been sick because she didn´t complain and didn´t let on that anything was bothering her.

I´m really sorry that I won´t be there for the funeral or the wake. I think the world of Kris and her family she and Jay have been great examples for me, my sincere condolences at this great loss.
