Wayne Lamar Hemingway 1925 - 2010 Wayne Lamar Hemingway was born March 20, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wayne was the son of Franklin Hemingway and Esther Downie. "Pops" passed away July 29, 2010. His family moved to Bakersfield when he was 2 years old. He served in the Seabees in WWII from 1943-1946. Wayne married Christine Elaine Moore in 1948. Together they had 5 children: Gary (Janice), Mark (Nelda), Scott (Laurie), Diane (Dave), and Brian. Upon the death of our mother, he married Lela Hildebrand Smith and the family increased by 4 children: Joyce, Harold, Carolyn, and David. Wayne had a great love for his family and kept everyone entertained with his sense of humor. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had very strong faith. He was employed by Standard Oil, Cal State Bakersfield, and upon his retirement he became a crossing guard. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine; son, Brian; and brothers, Franklin and Paul. He is survived by his four children; his wife, Lela; ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. A special thanks to the staff at Evergreen, Hoffmann Hospice, Mercy and San Joaquin Hospital, Dr. Keith Seidenstricker, and the staff of the Whispering Pines. Services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2801 S. Real Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93309.
