James Troglin Obituary

TROGLIN , James R. James Richard "Rick" Troglin of Frederick passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008. Born June 23, 1950 in Oak Ridge TN, he was the son of the late Patty and Marion Troglin. He retired in 1989 as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps after serving 21 years. He proudly served his country in Vietnam, Helsinki, and Leningrad, as well as Geneva during the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT). He also served at Naval Intelligence Command in MD, the Fleet Marine Corps Pacific, and volunteered for recall during Desert Storm. Among his many commendations, he received two Meritorious Service medals during his military career. After retirement from the Marine Corps, he completed a degree in Business Management from Hood College and began a career in sales within the industrial construction equipment industry where he worked for a number of years. Whatever he pursued, he did so with enthusiasm, pride and determination. He also enjoyed volunteering to help others, most recently at his church and local animal shelter. Rick's life was an adventurous one. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking, music and, most of all, "talking story" with his friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived a very full life. He was a member of the B.P.O Elks, the American Legion, the Marine Corps Intelligence Assn, the Marine Embassy Guard Assn, and a lifetime member of the Bowleys Quarters Fire Department. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 24 years, Miriam of Frederick; step-daughters Kelly Steele husband Al and granddaughter Allison of Leesburg VA; Kris Pettit and husband Larry of Frederick and daughter and son Stephanie and Adam Troglin of Jacksonville, NC. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Michael of Rockville MD; Kathy Plavko and husband Mike of State College, PA; Karen Hastey and husband Ron of Walters, OK and brother Mason Troglen of Sparta, TN, as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by the many dear friends he made throughout his life.
Family will receive friends from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. Frederick, MD on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 10:30 A.M. at The Church of the Transfiguration, 6909 Maryland Ave, Braddock Heights, MD, with the Reverend Henry Sabetti officiating. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on September 24, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. Those wishing to attend, please gather at the Administration Building by 12:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Frederick County Animal Control Shelter, 1832 Rosemont Ave, Frederick, MD, 21702 or a charity of your choice. Rick,

I have never laughed so hard in my life, thanks to you. I will always remember you, in fact, I am still talking about some of your best stuff while on Hawaii. It was the best time a Marine could ever have and still maintain combat readiness! Thanks Rick! You are one of a kind and I learned so much from you.
