I knew Marge through my friend/colleague, Francina Stonesifer of Charles Town, WV. Marge and Fran were Naval Officers in WW II. Fran was in first class of women officers to go to Newport for OCS. That MAY have been when they met. In the '70's I was employed by Navy Relief Society, whose headquarters was in Arlington, VA, and first, Fran and I would meet Marge for lunch. After Fran died, I would visit Marge in Baltimore on Federal Hill and then at Catonsville and then I sort of lost track because of the "privacy act" which is used to refuse to give information.
She was a super guide for trips to Baltimore! I brought a couple sisters with me for lunch - always a great restaurant suggested by Marge - and tours! We shared our love of history and our Catholic faith and good times dining and touring. You, Bob, and the rest of have the rest of Marge's family, have my sympathy. I don't have an address for you, but I will have a Mass offered for Marge at St. Lawrence Church here in our little town of Lawrenceville, IL as soon as I can get it on the Church calendar. She was a friend that no one can replace.

Although as her niece, I lived quite far away in Hawaii, my Aunt Margaret was always an inspiration. Nothing was impossible! She was a woman ahead of her time, getting a strong education and having a robust and varied career. Always looking to learn, and always fairly forthright in her thoughts, sometimes prompting some memorable lines! And yes, me and my kids were always scared of her house at Fell's Point, but we braved through it!

To all of the Doughertys and their family, my condolences. In many ways, Margaret made lasting impressions on all of us, our children, our friends. She contributed so much, via stern talks and well meaning advice. I do not think that anyone in the family had the courage to contradict her, although I do remember heated discussions with her brother Joe. Those disagreements usually focused on serving in the Army versus the Navy, which Margaret always opined on vehemently. They ended by brother and sister apologizing to each other; we learned to call them the effects of the "IRISH TEMPER", which was genetically passed on to at least one of my children. Visiting her in Baltimore was always an experience, including the time we, including the children, were ordered to help with the chores of restoring the Fells Point house. Biggest job was to tear off layers and layers of wallpaper downstairs in the bar area; most of us were to scared to go upstairs to the old rooms of the "boarding house".....but everyone liked to work in and around the huge bar on the first floor.
Memories.....we will never forget her energy, leadership, forcefulness and fondness of family.

I am the cousin of Marie Plonk Rogers, Margaret's long time friend. Margaret was the most caring and generous person I have ever known. I will forever be grateful for the enormous time and energy she spent caring for Marie. She has a special place in my heart and is surely with the Angels in heaven. May she rest in piece in Christ's arms.

As her niece, Roberta's, friend, I remember as a child spending the night in her house on Shakespeare Street that she was rehabbing in the mid 70s. The house was pretty big and she had one end of it fixed up to live in; there was a cool spiral staircase that Roberta and I loved going up and down. Margaret gave us a tour at night of the unfinished part, and I am pretty sure we were convinced there were ghosts wandering around. Life with Margaret was always an adventure! She was an independent, strong woman who encouraged all young women to be confident and to forge their own path. Godspeed, Margaret.
