Robert Noll Obituary

Robert E. Noll, "Bob", beloved husband of Shirley Holmes Noll, passed away on January 17, 2025 at the age of 95. Bob was a devoted father to Robert Noll, Jr. (Debbie), Pam Noll Brazis (Bill), Mary Noll Altman (Doug) and David Noll (Diane); cherished grandfather to 8 grandchildren Andrew (Jen), Braden (Erin), Matthew (Becky), Taylor, Will, Ben, Grace and Emily: and a proud great-grandfather of 5 great grandchildren, Allie, Abby, Maggie, Lucy and most recently Riley Robert Noll. Both born in Cincinnati, Bob and Shirley moved to Baltimore in 1953 where they set down deep roots. Bob and Shirley attended the Church of the Redeemer on advice from a friend and became lifelong members serving and supporting the ministry of the church. They formed lifetime friendships there. Bob was an Electrical/Aerospace Engineer for nearly four decades with Westinghouse in Linthicum, Maryland. He enjoyed mentoring the young engineers coming up through the ranks. Bob was a renaissance man skilled in many disciplines carrying his pocket notebook to record notes and do further research. Bob was an avid and learned gardener achieving "master gardener" certification in his 50s. He was a do-it-yourselfer before home renovation became popular. He cruised the aisles of Home Depot and helped his children and grandchildren with home projects. Bob regularly volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and DreamBuilders. He cherished the time working beside his son, daughter, son-in-law and grandsons in building homes. He was a lifelong philatelist, a skilled tennis player and did Zumba into his 80s. Bob and Shirley traveled the world together making it to 6 continents. His attention to detail manifested itself in beautiful travel books he assembled after a trip. "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness…" Mark Twain.

The legacy he leaves behind is one of curiosity, constant learning and respect for all persons. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Maryland 21210, on Friday, February 7th, at 11 AM. Memorial donations can be made in Bob's name to Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, Longwood Gardens or The Church of the Redeemer Memorial Fund.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Quite a coincidence....my father Robert M. Noll Jr. passed away in December just shy of his 99th birthday (obituary also on Legacy in December). Reading about your father, I think the two of them might have enjoyed knowing each other! My condolences. Lisa Noll, Colorado

I met Bob over 50 years ago at Westinghouse and we immediately seemed to click.
I was a young Mechanical Engineer who had starting working there right out of college. We were working together on a classified program.
He eventually moved on to other programs in a different building and we lost touch even though we stilled were working at the same place.
Then when my wife joined the choir at Redeemer about 10 or 15 years ago, we ran into one Sunday and both immediately recognized each other. He would always seem to llook for me after church and if I wasn't there he would ask Ann about me.
About 3 years ago my wife, Ann, and I moved to Oak Crest a few years after Bob and Shirley and we reconnected again. It was always wonderful to run into him and he always seemed to enjoy it also.
I really respected Bob and will miss him.
