I will never forget the first day I walked into your classroom, you have an old military helmet on your head and you were acting out a speech to better reach the students. You made a difference in so many people's world, may you rest in peace and know you leave a legacy.
My sincere thoughts and prayers are with your family.

You've taught me so much over 20 years Obie. I've always remember the conversations we have had on the phone. And now today you are no longer here with us. But this is not a good bye my dear friend. This is a see you later. I hope you see the man under the bridge and don't forget to read the book. I will always keep my copy with me and will cherish it more. When I need your words I will read your message.
You're friend

I don't even know where to start with Mr. O'Brien... to say that he was a great teacher is an understatement. Mr. O'Brien's way of teaching was unique and effective and he executed it well. Not only did we learn, but we also had fun in his class. Mr. O'Brien has not only impacted my education, but my life as a whole, and I'm sure countless other students as well. I can never forget the advice he told me and my classmates about life... especially about jobs and the real world. Mr. O'Brien has been a huge influence on me and was one of the best teachers I have ever had. It is a shame to see him go. Rest in peace Mr. O'Brien. Know you're loved by every single one of the students whose life has been changed by you. Thank you Mr. O'Brien, for where I am today and for where countless former students of yours are today.

Mr O'Brien was by far my favorite teacher all throughout middle school. He was an inspirational, friendly, smart guy. Anybody would've been lucky to have been a friend of his. During my time with him in 8th grade he taught me and other how to be a better person and make a difference in the world. I remember all the props he had in his class like the president dolls and that anvil he would drop and the trump and Hillary heads. He would always tell jokes and try to have a fun time with students when he was teaching you could have called him a good influence all throughout HDGMS. He was a good man and it's sad to see him go. Rest In Peace Mr. OB

Mr.obrien was the best teacher and went beyond the call . as a student who dealt with bullying . Mr.obrien heard students call me names one day in his class amd stopped teaching his lesson to make them stop . even aloud me to step out to call down. In a world filled with school bullying he made sure to be a part in stopping it. If I finished my work early he aloud me to read books . class was always fun it didnt even feel like a classroom sometimes but a room filled with fun laughter and knowledge. im glad I was able to see him one last time before his passing .

I can't even begin to express how grateful I am for such a blessing of a man. Mr.O'Brien was a huge inspiration to me when I was a student back in middle school and it was him who sparked my love for everything history related. Each one of his lessons was always so perfectly thought up to match the topic of that day; whether it was printing papers to list how pencils would be taxed to teach us what it was like early on in America, or wearing goofy hats all the time that would relate to some random point in history. Each time he would mention something that happened a long time ago, it would always be followed with, Many many moons ago... It was impossible to enter his classroom and not be full of joy and energy because of his personality. To this day I still have a deep passion for history and know so very much thanks to Mr.O'Brien and his teachings. My thoughts are with all of his family and anyone who knew him or was influenced like I was. You will always live on in our hearts, God bless you.

So very sad to hear of his passing. Mr. O'Brien was an amazing teacher who's made such an impact on so many young lives. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to be one of those young lives 17yrs ago. I pray his family finds comfort in knowing all the lives he's touched. May their memories of him always be a reminder of the great person he will forever be remembered as.
