David W. Adams, 65, died peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2014 surrounded by his wife and daughters at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. Dave lost a courageous battle against the complications of a kidney transplant.
Dave was born April 1, 1949 in Coldwater to Leo and Genevieve (Rzepka) Adams. He graduated from Saint Charles Catholic School in 1967, and from Western Michigan University in 1972. On July 21, 1979 he married Ann Kelly in Manistee.
Dave was a career math teacher at Colon Community Schools where he coached football, softball, and basketball. He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church and the Marshall Country Club. Dave enjoyed officiating high school basketball, football, softball, and college softball for several years. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Dave coached for several years and remained dear friends with the Redman's Women's slow pitch softball team. He enjoyed helping his daughters with their sporting events and, recently, spending time with his granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ann of Marshall; daughters, Kaity (Charles) Cooper of Albion and Maggie (Neal) Dopp of Plainwell; granddaughter Ellyee Cooper; sisters, Pat (Doug) Simmons and Sharon (Gary) Wright all of Coldwater; and a brother, Tom (Audrey) Adams of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place at the Craig Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel 723 US 27 North, Marshall on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 2-8pm with family present to greet friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a rosary service taking place at 6:30pm. A funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Saint Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Father Craig Lusk officiating. The family will gather with friends following the funeral Mass at the Marshall Country Club, 151 Lyon Lake Road, Marshall. Friends who wish to make a memorial contribution in Dave's memory are requested to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or to the Marshall Recreation Department for Youth Programs. I will miss you, Coach. I remember your first year at Colon and how you confused us all by raising your right hand when you'd say left and left hand when you'd say right. We all thought you were touched until you explained that you were a drill instructor and that was the way the military does it
