Lucille Gary Obituary

LUCILLE YVONNE (CHAO) GARY
Lucille Yvonne (Chao) Gary was born in Ybor City Florida on January 23rd 1936. She was the first-born child of William Joseph Chao and Mary Carmen Menendez Chao. She lived in Tampa area as a young child moving to Jacksonville Beach after WWII. Lucy's homelife included her mom, dad, sister Evangelina and brother William Everett. Lucy attended Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach Florida and attended Florida State University where she received a degree in Education. She married George Richard Gary on March 26th, 1959 and remained with him for over 65 years. They moved to Talking Rock, Georgia in the early 70's where they lived at their beloved "Mt. Neverest" until the last 2 years when she and Richard stayed with their daughter in Chattahoochee, Florida.
A loving and protective mother, she is survived by three children, George Patrick Gary of Milledgville, GA, William Joseph Gary of Talking, GA and Kristin Lucienne Gary Manos (Anthony) of Chattahoochee, Florida, nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Other surviving family members are her brother, William Everett Chao (Jeanne) and sister-in-laws Sharon Patricia Gary Miles (Jimmy) and Martha Sue Gary Collins (Leonard).
Lucy's hobbies included gardening, reading, traveling, puzzle solving and being with family as much as possible. She was a fighter and survived several serious illnesses during her lifetime including heart failure, Stephen Johnson's Syndrome and a long spell with White Matter Disease which eventually took her life. She was taken home to God on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Quincy, Florida. A reception will follow the service.
Mom loved flowers, but was very practical. So, in lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Big Bend Hospice.
