Barbara Moor Obituary

Barbara Strong Moor, 78, of Beaumont, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Barbara was born in Beaumont on March 22, 1932, to Lois Williams Strong and Ewell Strong, Jr. She attended Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia and in 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Ted E. Moor, Jr. Barbara was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was also active in the Junior League of Beaumont, the Magnolia Garden Club, and the Beaumont Heritage Society. Barbara served as a docent at the John Jay French Museum and the McFaddin-Ward House. She served on the boards of the Beaumont Community Foundation, the Texas Energy Museum, and the McFaddin-Ward House. Barbara was chairman of Individual Gifts Group A for the United Way. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of Colonial Dames. Barbara is survived by her husband, Ted E. Moor, Jr.; daughter, Kathleen Moor Shipley and her husband Wesley of Beaumont; sons, Ted E. Moor III and his wife Barbara of Beaumont and Glenn D. Moor of Lubbock; granddaughters, Jennifer Shipley Trenbeath and her husband John, Kimberly Shipley, Kelly Moor, Kristen Moor, Sarah Moor, and Rachel Moor; great-grandsons, Damian Phelps, and Mason Phelps; and brother, Beeman Strong and his wife Louise of Houston. The family wishes to thank Helen Truett, Joan Ponder, and the Harbor Hospice staff for their excellent care. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 680 Calder, Beaumont, with The Reverend Dean Calcote officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, under the direction of Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday prior to the service in the Cloister Room at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 680 Calder, Beaumont, Texas 77701; Alzheimer's Association, 700 North Street, Suite M, Beaumont, Texas 77701; or to the Julie Rogers' Gift of Life, PMB#46, 148 S.
