David Howell Obituary
David Wayne Howell, 73, of Spade, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, in Littlefield, Texas. He was born on February 28, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas to William and Kathleen Howell. He married Doris Brown on October 13, 1979.
David graduated from Frenship High School in 1970. He was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, where he earned his master's degree in 1974, setting the stage for a remarkable career in agricultural education. As an FFA teacher in Haskell, Texas, Bronte, Texas, Abernathy, Texas and for 35 years in Cotton Center, Texas. David inspired countless students, encouraging their talents and capabilities and guiding them to over 20 National Championships in FFA contests. His passion extended beyond the classroom to the fields, where he lovingly restored old tractors, breathing new life into rusty relics. His life was a testament to service and passion. He dedicated his time to the Jubilee Prison Ministry, where he offered hope and redemption to those seeking a second chance. He made a difference in many lives. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Littlefield, Texas. He lived a life marked by dedication to education, community, family and spiritual growth.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Doris Howell of Spade, Texas; a daughter, Deidra Howell of Spade, Texas; two brothers, Ronnie Howell of Melissa, Texas, and Tommy Howell of Lubbock, Texas; five sisters, Kathy Howell of Anton, Texas, Betty Franks of Anton, Texas, Nancy Howell of Anton, Texas, Linda Beckham of Lubbock, Texas, and Patti DuBois of Ropesville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Kathleen Howell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Littlefield, Texas with Jonathan Land, Fernando Flores and Ted Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Anton Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Eric Parkey, Jay Ray Sageser, Paul J. McAlister, Gus Driver, Austin Voyles and Tracy Blount. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Howell, Justin DuBois, Travis Howell, Wesley Howell, Nathan DuBois and Cody DuBois.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to a Christian or education charity of your choosing.
