Curtis Nickens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sanders Funeral Home - Lubbock on Jan. 12, 2026.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Curtis Lee Nickens, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on January 9, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on December 1, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas, Curtis was a lifelong resident of Ropesville, Texas. He graduated from Frenship High School in 1981, where he laid the foundation for a fulfilling career as a skilled diesel mechanic.

Curtis was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army, reaching the rank of E-2. His dedication to both his country and his craft was a testament to his character-a man of integrity, hard work, and determination. He worked passionately in the diesel mechanic industry, finding joy not only in his work but also in the company of friends who often gathered with him in his workshop.

Outside of his professional life, Curtis embraced the simpler joys of life. He loved watching television, cooking delicious meals, and spending quality time with his cherished dogs, Kahlua and FiFi. Above all, he took immense pride in being a grandfather to six grandchildren, Trinity, Zoe, Jioun, Beau, Beryl and Lois, who were the light of his life.

Curtis was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Dee Nickens on September 3, 2024. He is survived by his devoted mother, Doris Blair, and his daughter, Ashley Griggs; step-daughters, Audra Raymond and Katie Odlozil; Brothers, Jack Nickens, Wesley Blair; Sisters, Jeanette Welch, Cathey Neuman and Leslie Duncan. who will forever honor his memory and cherish the love he imparted to their lives.

A celebration of Curtis's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2026 in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory and to share stories that reflect the impact he made on those around him.

As we remember Curtis Lee Nickens, we acknowledge the legacy he leaves behind-a legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
