I was saddened to hear of the passing of my former principal at Wiergate and Burkeville High Schools. Professor Brailsford was an excellent principal and administrator, and a great disciplinarian. My class was the first integrated class at Burkeville High in 1970. A Black principal was unheard of at that time and in that area of Texas. He navigated us through a very difficult transition that school year. Professor Brailsford was a trailblazer and a leader!

Professor Brailsford also made great improvements to our small Wiergate High School, with the opening of the Arts Library. He had a love for educating young people. He cared for each student and knew every one by name. I salute him for his tenacity and willingness to stand firm and tall despite adversity.

I send my sincere sympathies to the family. Even though I live in California, my heart is part of the rural town of Wiergate, where I grew up. May you know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal, and that you will see Professor Brailsford again on that "great getting up morning."

My very strict but friendly chemistry teacher and later teacher-colleague at Woodson High School. He made a difference. May his wife and relatives be blessed with God's comfort.

God's soldier of fortitude, discipline, professionalism and much more. He embedded in us the quality of dignity even if we were at Carter G Woodson colored school. Today,I am a much better product on God's earth which Mr. Brailsford instilled. At the time we do not see it, but over time the light shines. He would be highly upset over my typos in this message...Rest in Heaven Mr. Brailsford , Rest in Heaven task well done! Tell my Moms hello, for the Lord has two great educators looking over us as we proceed onward Christian soldiers. Blessings to your Family!

Mr. B. was my mentor, friend, and brother in Christ. He taught me how to behave professionally. Prayers for the family in your loss, but know that Mr. B. had a positive influence on thousands of students, teachers, and community members...a life well-lived on Earth and now in Heaven. I am most blessed to have known him.
