Clement Shields
Clement L. Shields, 73, of Red Bud, Ill., born Sept. 23, 1934, in Monroe County, Ill., died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Shields was a welder with Inter City Products in Red Bud, Ill. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society at the church, Hecker Sportsmans Club and Local Sheet Metal Workers. Clement loved to watch sports and was a great water skier in his prime. Clement and Jack Weise were the last two people to walk out of Inter City Products when it closed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria L., nee Hecke, Shields, whom he married March 13, 1954 in Red Bud, Ill., and who died Sept. 23, 1992; a son, Gary Shields; and his parents, Melvin and Nora, nee Fults, Shields.
Surviving are his children, Ron (Kathy) Shields of Red Bud, Ill., Janice (Robert) Maurer of Belleville, Ill., and Pam (Wayne) Koopman of Red Bud, Ill.; his grandchildren, Shawn Clark, Lisa (Andrew) Hacker, Nicole, Robert and Ashley Maurer, Jessica (Tim) Liefer, Kristen and Matt Shields, Ben and Becky Koopman, Philip and Melissa Shields; his sister, Ruth Ann Polacek of Red Bud, Ill.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic School in Red Bud, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home, Red Bud, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at St. John's Catholic Church in Red Bud, Ill., with Father Tom Stout officiating. Interment in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud, Ill.

Clem was such a great guy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I worked with Clem and Gloria at Inter City for many years. Clem and Gloria are back together and I am sure they are very happy. Clem will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
