John Sweeney Obituary

John "Jack" Sweeney Jr.
John T. "Jack" Sweeney Jr., 75, of Fairview Heights, Ill., formerly of East St. Louis, Ill., born Feb. 7, 1928, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Sweeney was a project manager for military bases. He worked as a plumbing and heating estimator and salesman for Sears, Roebuck & Co. stores in East St. Louis, Ill., and Fairview Heights, Ill. He was an antique book dealer, owned the Yankee Peddler, Lebanon, Ill., and operated Peddlers Books on the Internet. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, East St. Louis, Ill., and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Mr. Sweeney was a World War II U.S. Navy Seabee. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Sweeney was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Adele A., nee Lopinot, Sweeney; and a brother, Robert Sweeney.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia, nee Lavar, Sweeney; six children, Terry (Roger) Eddy of Odessa, Mo., John T. Sweeney III of Fairview Heights, Ill., Patty (Victor) Hagen of Belleville, Ill., Cheri (Alan Vineyard) Sweeney of Fairview Heights, Ill., Laura (Chuck) Vallentine of Spring, Texas, and Casey (Alice) Sweeney of Belleville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Kyle Eddy of Odessa, Mo., Cole Eddy of Odessa, Mo., Airman Chad Eddy of Okinawa, Japan, Amy (Jason) Bilyeau of Belleville, Ill., J.R. (fiance Bethany Mueller) Hagen of Belleville, Ill., Westin Vallentine of Spring, Texas, Justin Sweeney of Belleville, Ill., and LeAnn Sweeney of Belleville, Ill.; two step-grandchildren, Sean Vallentine of Ballwin, Mo., and Amelia Vineyard of Fairview Heights, Ill.; two sisters, Joan Goetz of Union, Mo., and Eleanor (Bob) Hayden of Washington, Mo.; a brother, Father Eugene Sweeney of Denton, Texas; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Father Elmar Mauer officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
