January 19, 1956 - June 23, 2025
Bellingham, Washington - Craig Allen Peal, 69, of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Lopez Island, WA, on June 23, 2025. Born on January 19, 1956, Craig's family moved to the Seattle area from Kansas when he was six years old, a move that would shape the rest of his life. It was in the Pacific Northwest where Craig discovered his deep love for the outdoors, joining his father and family on hiking and camping trips that sparked a lifelong passion for nature. From those early years Craig became an avid skier, hiker, and cyclist, always seeking adventure in the beautiful landscapes surrounding him.
Craig attended the University of Washington, where he earned a BA in Economics, and later went on to earn a MBA from the University of Chicago. He then worked for Rocket Research until 1984, before beginning his career at Costco, where he would dedicate 35 years of service, retiring in 2019. Throughout his career, Craig was known for his strong work ethic, sharp business mind, and genuine care for those he worked with.
After retiring, Craig and his wife, Jaye, moved to Bellingham, where Craig dedicated the rest of his life to exploring the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. His passion for adventure never slowed. Craig competed in the 2023 Bellingham Ski to Sea Race, summited Mt. Baker in 2024, and went backpacking in Patagonia with his son, Thomas, in March 2025. His commitment to staying active and living life to the fullest was a testament to his boundless energy and spirit, which remained strong up until the end of his life.
In Bellingham, Craig and his wife Jaye were able to build a strong community of close friends, quickly becoming an integral part of their new home. Whether it was exploring new trails or enjoying a quiet evening with loved ones, he relished the connections he made and the beauty of the place he called home.
Craig is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Jaye Peal; children, Thomas and Anna (Chad Steele); his cherished grandchildren, Louis and Simon Steele; his sisters, Beverly Dunn, Cynthia Clark, and Donna Peal; numerous nieces and nephews; and Corgi, Scooter.
