Kyle Jacob "Kylie" Roger

Kyle Roger Obituary

January 17, 2001 -February 7, 2009 Kyle Roger died Saturday morning in his home surrounded by relatives and friends after a courageous two-year battle against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare and inoperable cancer in the brain stem. But Kylie never let the disease define his unique spirit and love for life. He, along with his brother, Nicolas, packed a lifetime of adventures into his 8 years. They visited Hawaii, Disneyland, Arizona, Florida, Quebec and British Columbia. He swam with dolphins and learned to surf in Oahu, skied black diamond runs at Mt. Baker, rode his bike on the trail at Galbraith Mountain, went to horse camp at Progressive Riding Academy and was the Lucky Dawg, accompanying team captains to midfield before the Washington Huskies played Ohio State in 2007. At home, his endless energy captivated friends and family as he continued to pursue his favorite pastimes, riding his bike, skateboarding, swimming, playing soccer and basketball and sharing time with classmates first at Happy Valley Elementary and this past year at Wade King. Even as his "brain bump," as he called it, limited his mobility, Kyle continued competing with all comers in Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Farkle, and never tired of looking through his collections of coins, rocks, shells and Pokemon cards. Kylie loved to dance, laugh, tell jokes and tried to stump everyone with his crazy math skills. But what Kyle loved most was his family and friends. He gave his love freely and without hesitation. Kyle is survived and missed dearly by his brother Nicolas, his mom, Christin Willhite Roger, his dad, Jocelyn Roger, his grandparents, aunts, great- grandmothers, and cousins. Kyle's unwavering spirit and determination filled him and those around him. He never gave up, truly believing if he tried is hardest and did his best he would win. That is exactly what he did. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 16th, at 11:00 at Christ the King Church, 4173 Meridian Street, Bellingham. For more information visit Kyle's website www.kyleroger.blogspot.com.
